Guest Speaker: "Who am I?"
Rotarian: - Peter McLennan.
Peter was born in Strathmore and he and Janet to whom he has been married for 26 years moved to Ocean Grove in 1990. They have 2 children. Prior to this peter has been very busy with "getting an education and appropriate qualifications in accountancy" (he is a CPA) traveling, living and working all over the world. Two of the more interesting experiences were an earthquake whilst on the 17th floor of a hotel in Taiwan and waking up in New Zealand to see the Rainbow Warrior on its side. Professionally he has worked mostly in finance, accounting and systems analysis for Ford Australia, Pacific Dunlop for a very short time and more latterly for the Victorian Government and the Melbourne Marketing Authority. This is a very large business and many interesting tales could have been told if time had not run out, particularly about the reason for the two pockets in the bib of the leather aprons the stall holders wear. Peter left the MMA in 2010 and is currently employable…..
Rotarian: - Gillian Morgan.
Gillian was born in Dunbar, Scotland to a prominent family with history dating to the 1300's. At age 18 she emigrated in the 1980's, worked in the Lord Mayors office and then in advertising. Married, lived in Kyabram, had a child, divorced and moved to Shepparton. Continued with clerical work and became Personal Assistant to the city manager. She met and married Darryl and moved to a dairy farm and commenced the steep learning curve of country life. After 12 months Darryl was badly hurt in a traffic accident but after recovery and adjustment to life in a wheelchair they bought a large cattle property. The learning curve continued as Gillian became very familiar with tractors, folding harrows, feeding calves and dealing with large disgruntled bulls.  Then came the big stuff, stock transport trucks, missing fences whilst driving a bulldozer, using a back hoe and coping with her husband's hobby of large numbers and varieties of poultry. They were married for 16 eventful years. After Darryl's death two years ago Gillian moved to Ocean Grove to be near the sea and her grand children. Gillian certainly showed that her belief of looking forward and over coming problems with spirit and determination and, I suspect not without humor has been the way in which she has survived.
Something Light:
A friend was visiting his son and daughter-in-law last night when he asked his son if he could borrow a newspaper.
"This is the 21st Century, old man," he said. "We don't waste money on newspapers. Here, you can borrow my iPad."
My friend said that he thought that the bloody fly never knew what hit it….
