Report of the Meeting: 28/8/2012.
A warm welcome to twelve visitors and members by Pres. Dick. Hopefully some will consider becoming members. The visitors were addressed by John Paton who spoke about the reasons for being in Rotary. He highlighted the satisfaction and happiness, which could be gained by helping others. He also spoke of the fun to be had by working with people who were more than likely to have similar ideals and life experiences.
Phil Edwards spoke about some of our projects, Local, National and International. He stressed how teamwork could achieve great results and outlined the worldwide achievement of Polio Plus.
John Flett indicated how different types of structure of Rotary Clubs was seen as important if we were to attract new members, especially as the structure of modern work and family life is different and ever changing. Ocean Grove Rotary Club is seriously considering forming a satellite club if there is enough interest.
DG Helen Trigg spoke about how some of the older requirements for membership have changed to provide more flexibility, especially attendance and member categories. She also spoke about the inclusion of women as full members, with our district having the largest percentage of women members. Service above Self was also stressed.

Notes and reminders: - Geoff Chandler reminded members about the Shine On Awards. He would be pleased to receive nominations any time.
- Market: The next and last winter market will be held on 2/9/2012. Parking may be a problem and stallholders may need our help once again.
- Social Committee. Marion Walton. Negotiations are continuing for a bus to go to Colac for the Birregurra Cup on 6/10/2012.
- Pride in Workmanship Award. Please consider likely recipients for this award. Gerry Spencer would be pleased to hear of any nominations.
- John Flett for the Public Relations Committee reported that we are able to have an entry in the Voice once a month. This is a very good opportunity to reach the public so make John's life happy and contribute.
- Footy Tipping. Please read the email and continue to tip throughout the finals. Send Alex Magee your Brownlow Medal tip along with the number of points. He also wants the Grand Final winner and the winning margin. Alex doesn't want much does he?
- Gary Golding is continuing chemotherapy but he will continue with John Fox's help to run the Car Raffle with some changes. There will be 750 books which will need to be sold…. so be prepared.
- There is an Interplast Team going to Tonga. There are places available for observers.
- Mega Swim. Trevor McArdle reported that even though there was not as much sponsorship available the amount raised for the Multiple Sclerosis Society is $22,000 and rising. The Rotary Club raised $10,564.00 for its swim of 50kms. Well-done swim team. The catering and raffle were very successful. John Calnin thanked all participants and sponsors, with special mention to Bill Steains. The swimmers were presented with their well-earned "gold medals".
- Marion Walton invited members of the club to a tree planting at South Warooke on Sunday 16/9/12.
- Art Show. Entries are coming in well. Raffle tickets are available from Tony Haines if wanted.
