Bulletin for the meeting held Tuesday April 27, 2004 at The Ocean Grove Hotel.
President Geoff Brentnall: Welcome to members, visiting Rotarians and guests.
a. A list of prospective members will be circulated in the next fortnight for approval. Please advise Geoff if you have any names to suggest.
b. Please note that the meeting next week will be held on MONDAY 3rd, 6.00 for 6.30pm at Bellarine Estate. Apologies must be to Hans by 11.30am FRIDAY on 52551344.
c. The Changeover Dinner will be held on June 29th at a venue to be announced.
d. The meeting on May 11 will be a partners night.
e. The Assistant Sgt Greeter is required to arrive by 5.50pm to assist Hans with set up. (Hans will be away for the next two weeks)
Secretary, Tony Haines: District information available for members. Brochure received from the Rotary Club of Cobar regarding the Billy Cart Bash. Members who ordered Entertainment Books can collect them now.
Club Service, Tim Kemp – Richard Grimmett has joined the committee investigating a Rotary web site. Those who ordered shirts please bring your money ($23 – exact money) within the next two weeks. District Assembly will be held n May 2.
Community Service, Steve Gubbins – Another highway cleanup is planned for the near future. The Bloodarine Challenge closes on June 30 so please encourage your friends and colleagues to give blood on behalf of the Rotary Club of Ocean Grove.
New Generations, (Wal Kelly) – Wal is pleased to announce that Jon Madin has been successful in his application for Rotary Youth Exchange and will go to Sweden (his first choice).
Anzac Day BBQ, John Calnin: The Anzac Day BBQ was well supported by 13 members and partners and was a very successful and worthwhile exercise. Thanks to those members.

May 3rd (Monday) Combined meeting with Rotary Club of Drysdale. This is not a mixed meeting and the programme will be a Trivia Night with general and Rotary trivia! Time: 6.00 for 6.30pm at Bellarine Estate.
May 11th – Youth Night (Mixed meeting)
May 18th – Andrew Steains – History and practice of Town Crying.
Guest Speakers – Brian Ulmer, President Ocean Grove Surf Lifesaving Club. The association is now called Lifesaving Victoria. The Ocean Grove Nippers have over 350 children 7 – 13 years of age for 10 weeks each Saturday morning at the main beach. The purpose of Nippers is to teach young children about the surf and to develop lifesavers for the future. Ocean Grove Nippers won the State Titles this year.
Alistair McCooke – Victorian and Australian Surf Lifesaver of the Year. Victorian Volunteer of the Year. Alistair’s award is for volunteer commitment, rescues performed and involvement in the club.
The Ocean Grove Surf Lifesaving Club was formed in 1948 and performs a public role in medical emergencies, lost children, boating accidents and event management. The focus is on 1st Aid skills. Automatic External Defribulators are needed to provide necessary 1st Aid at the beach. As the club does not qualify for these under the government’s criteria, funds are required.
