Rotary Youth Exchange
The most powerful force in the promotion of international understanding and peace is exposure to different cultures. The world becomes a smaller, friendlier place when we learn that all people — regardless of nationality — desire the same basic things: a safe, comfortable environment that allows for a rich and satisfying life for our children and ourselves. Youth Exchange provides thousands of young people with the opportunity to meet people from other lands and to experience their cultures. This plants the seeds for a lifetime of international understanding.
TOP PRIORITY
The District Rotary Youth Exchange committee has invited Ocean Grove to host a Danish girl, Signe Uhlenfeldt, who is due to arrive in August this year. Signe will stay for 11 months. Members and their partners are asked to give urgent consideration to this last minute opportunity and have input to discussion at the NEXT meeting.
Profile - Signe Uhlenfeldt
Signe Uhlenfeldt is from Odense (pop 160,000) in Denmark. Sponsored by RC Odense, just turned 17 years old, 1 older brother, 1 younger brother and 1 younger sister. Mother is a GP, father works in news at TV station. In the future wants to travel and work abroad. Will probably do something medical and would love to work for the Flying Doctor! Likes cooking, travelling. Has tried scuba diving & snorkelling which she enjoyed and she learnt the piano for 6 years. Has done some dancing in school musicals.
Her written English is excellent and we expect her spoken English will also be very good, as is usually the case with Danish students.
