Reports

Christmas tree project, Alan Joyce: Activities will begin on 6th November to assemble the leads at the Point Lonsdale Primary School Community Hall at 10.00am. 4 Rotary members are required to assist with the help of the Lions Club. This is in preparation for 13th November to put lights the on the tree starting at 6.00am. On 4th December as many helpers as possible are required to help. The Great Victorian Bike Ride will be in town on this day with 8-9000 people expected. Lions will be running shuttle buses between towns so members will be required for road closures, sales of Glow Sticks and Raffle Tickets. The Pt. Lonsdale Primary School Twighlight Market will be open from 2.00pm followed by Carols from 7.00 – 8.30pm. Light-up is at 8.30pm.

Donations in kind This Rotary World Community Service project takes place every Tuesday from 9 – 12 noon at the old Shire of Corio offices as well as other regional centres. Volunteers are welcome to turn up and assist. Items needed at the moment are old dictionaries, encyclopaedia, and pencils to be shipped to Third World Countries. These little things can make a BIG difference so please consider donating or helping one Tuesday.

Youth Service, David Tyrrell: The Youth Exchange Information and Training Weekend at Warrnambool was beneficial to all who attended (albeit a bit costly and short of opportunities for socialising). Outgoing exchange student Jack Madin was unable to attend as he was competing in a music competition in Melbourne. Jack won an award for a composition he wrote for guitar.

John Calnin: Unsuccessful overtures have been made to the sister club in Germany to be involved in an international golf challenge. John has also approached about 10 clubs in the district without success. The Elderly Citizens Christmas Dinner will be held on December 7th at the Ocean Grove Golf Club (changed from November 30 as announced at the meeting – Ed.)

Market, James Turnbull: The update market roster has been distributed tonight and updated on the web site.

Guest Speaker, Pauline MacKenzie: Pauline is a Miniaturist who works mainly with the 1/12th scale. Pauline spoke of her interest in miniatures after being introduced to them by husband Rod. She creates her own miniatures and collects some glasswork (Cranbury glassware miniatures), chests of drawers and the like. Pauline is also a quilter.

A young executive was leaving the office at 6 PM when he found the CEO standing in front of a shredder with a piece of paper in his hand. "Listen," said the CEO, "this is a very sensitive and important document and my secretary has left. Can you make this thing work?" "Certainly, Sir" said the young executive. He turned the machine on, inserted the paper, and pressed the start button. "Excellent, excellent!" said the CEO as his paper disappeared inside the machine. "I just need one copy."
