An epicure, dining at Crewe,
Found quite a large mouse in his stew.
Said the waiter, “don’t shout,
and wave it about,
or the rest will be wanting one, too!”
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………
I stuffed it up!!
Vice President and social function Guru John Calnin has contacted me, threatening to cancel his subscription, report me to the Sergeant at Arms and withdraw our invitation to the progressive dinner, because, in bulletin no.28, and to use his words, ‘You got everything wrong’, about the 11th February function. The error was made by a sub-editor, but naturally, I accept full responsibility. Now, take note of this;
It starts at 6.00 PM at the Calnin’s, moves on to the Triggs, and finally, to the hotel Boat Shed, [our usual venue].Visitors are welcome-[ not welcum], and you don’t need to bring chairs.
But the really important bit I omitted was that JC needs items for the auction, and he needs them NOW Sorry about that.
Now then, JC is concerned that registrations are poor, and a goodly number of attendees is essential to make the night a success. If you are worried about the cost, just remember that JC has put a lot more than $60 of effort into this project and he deserves your support by bringing guests. You will need to BYO drinks and glasses to all three venues.
January is Rotary Awareness month
District Governor Wayne Barrett has reminded all Rotarians that it is our responsibility to promote Rotary at every opportunity. As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, we boosted membership by a record intake in 2004/05, but in the almost seven months of the current Rotary year-----NIL.
Rotary Basics No. 3 Membership recruitment and retention
To keep clubs strong, every Rotarian must share the responsibility of bringing new people into Rotary. Even new members can bring guests to meetings or invite them to participate in a service project. The value of Rotary speaks for itself, and the best way to spark the interest of potential members is by letting them experience fellowship and service firsthand. Keeping members interested in Rotary is another responsibility. Good club fellowship and early involvement in service projects are two of the best ways to sustain the club’s membership.
Our Club is listed in the membership and attendance report for November as having lost 5 members since 30 June. I think it may be nearer7!. RC Charlton, [pop.1100], has reported 4 new members in the space of 6 weeks.
Our average attendance for November was 69%,[36th in the district], but it may have been better than stated, as 9 clubs didn’t send in a report.
If you plan to go to the District Conference on Friday, 3rd March, but haven’t yet registered, do it NOW
The DG has reminded all conference attendees that it is ‘Black and white for Saturday night’. I don’t think that requires us to be paid- up members of the Collingwood Football Club, but I need clarification from the ADG. Perhaps it’s a formal dinner?

• Judy Mills has resigned. Her possie as market promoter has been taken by the Waltons.
• Geoff Ford must have your raffle books back by next Tuesday. SOLD.
• Geoff shouldn’t have to shoulder all of the raffle ticket sales on his own. Phone your offer to help.
• Trevor McArdle presented a short talk on his latest venture- agent for Aussie Home Loans.
• Jack Madden, our home-coming exchange student, will be the guest speaker on 7/2/06.
• Ned Callaghan, will follow on 14/2/06, speaking on Reunion Island, part of the Mauritius group.
• On Monday, 3rd April, we hope to have, as our guest speaker, the Mayor of COGG.
Fr. Michael Richardson was our guest speaker last night. It is not often that your ‘bulled’ is moved to report on a guest speaker: After all, if you were there, you heard it, and if you weren’t, you probably aren’t interested.
But Michael was an outstanding speaker; lucid, informative, humorous and highly entertaining. He was called by his Bishop to serve on the Melbourne waterfront in 1972 at the Seamens’ club and amongst the very-often greatly disadvantaged and constantly exploited seamen of many diverse nationalities.
The injustices of the multinational shipping companies, the dirty, ill-equipped and frequently leaking ships on which the seamen had to serve; pay with-held for minor or fictitious offences, corrupt officials and meagre pay. Thank you, Michael for an excellent address.
