Childrens’ versions of the Bible Stories, episode 3 of 9
In the first Olympic games, Greeks ran races, jumped, hurled biscuits, and threw the java. The games were messier then than they show on TV now.
Julius Caesar extinguished himself on the battlefields of Gaul. The Ides of March murdered him because they thought he was going to be made king. Dying, he gasped out, “Same to you, Brutus”
Joan of Arc was burnt to a steak and was canonized by Bernard Shaw for reasons I don’t really understand. The English and French still have problems.

The Educational Programs of the Rotary Foundation
These programs are designed to promote international understanding by bringing together people from different countries and cultures.
• Ambassadorial Scholarships, the world’s largest, privately funded international scholarships program for university studies, sends 900 students each year to serve as ambassadors of goodwill while abroad.
• Rotary World Peace Fellowships, are awarded to individuals for study in master’s degree programs at the Rotary Centres for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution.
• Rotary Peace and Conflict Fellowships are awarded to individuals for study in a short-term certificate program at the Rotary Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies in Thailand
• Group Study Exchange is a cultural and vocational exchange program between districts in different countries for business people and professionals ages 25-40.
• Rotary Grants for University Teachers are awarded to higher education faculty to teach abroad in an academic field of practical use to people in low-income countries.
Did you all know about those? Frankly, I am familiar with nos. 1 and 4 only!

Good Manners in Rotary
This is a 20 page booklet, the 2nd edition revision of which was published in March 2006. It is an excellent publication and our club has obtained a supply. President Richard has already distributed a few to Board members, but if any member wishes to obtain one, just ask the bulletin editor.
Personally, I think the title is misleading, almost inappropriate, but you can be the judge.I found it well written and full of very useful Rotary material.

More Wicked Wisdom
Foreign. Belonging to another and inferior country.
Forgiveness A stratagem to throw an offender off his guard and catch him red-handed in his next offence.
Fork An instrument used chiefly for the purpose of putting dead animals into the mouth.
Fox Hunting The unspeakable in full pursuit of the uneatable. It was Oscar Wilde said that.

This day Tonight
One of those programs where the chairman, with the benefit of hindsight, could have introduced the speaker ten minutes earlier. That may have resulted in some meaningful questions at the end of a very interesting address. But time constraints meant that all we got was a few statements from the audience.
Tim Hellston, with twenty years experience in town planning, is the leader of a COGG team looking at strategic planning for this peninsular in general and Ocean Grove in particular. A 10 to 15 years vision, based on a doubling of our town’s population during the last ten years and the anticipation that the growth by 2020 could add another 5,000 to the existing 10,000 souls.
But where do we put them? Not to the West or the South, and we appear to be hampered by wetlands to the East, so that leaves only the north and, perhaps, the North- East!.
The Government is reluctant to permit uncontrolled development here, or for that matter, anywhere else along the coast, and there are specific problems in and around our town of land availability, infrastructures, environmental issues such as wetlands and forest reserves, and local services.
Tim named three phases of the planning process, background report, structure plan, and implementation policy. His team is currently working on the structure. Whatever time we are given to consider it all, it won’t be long enough!!

News in brief
On a Monday arvo. soon, Tim Kemp’s initiative with ‘donations-in-kind’ will swing into action. Watch this space. Trevor McArdle will push membership development in August, Rod Greer can supply Rotary caps for $15, Tim Kemp has shirts for sale, the State Minister for Health will visit our shop soon, and the program on 22nd August is ‘Fly fishing’. I am not sure why; most of us use a zipper!
Bob Smith and JohnWynn were awarded life memberships at the recent annual dinner of OG’s CFA.
Bob. received a ‘significant achievement award’ as well as life membership of both local and State CFA.
