This segment will surely indicate, particularly to our newer Rotarians, our internationality!
Dong Kurn Lee, a Rotary Foundation trustee and a member of the Rotary club of Seoul Hangang, Seoul, Korea, is the selection of the Nominating Committee for president of Rotary International in 2008-09. He will become the president-nominee on 1st December if there are no challenging candidates.
Lee is chairman of the Bubang Co. Ltd. And Bubang Techron Co. Ltd., manufacturing companies in Seoul and formerly served as a trustee of the Bank of Seoul. In 2005, he was appointed an international goodwill ambassador by the president of Korea. Lee has also served as honorary consul to the Italian consulate in Korea since 1994 and was awarded the Order of Industrial Merit by the Korean government. He and his wife Young Ja, have two sons and two daughters.
A Rotarian since 1971, Lee has served RI as a director, treasurer, district governor, training leader, regional Rotary Foundation coordinator and membership task force coordinator in Asia.

More about those of us who were born 1930 to 1970.
• We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from those accidents.
• We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.
• The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
• But those generations produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.
• The past 50 years have seen an explosion of innovations and new ideas.
• We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility and we learned how to deal with it all. If you are one of them,………..CONGRATULATIONS!

Did you hear about the short fortune-teller who escaped from prison? A small medium at large!
The first all-Russia Rotary District is Chartered
Rotary celebrated a historic milestone on 17th June with the chartering of District 2220, the first all-Russian district. More than 400 Rotarians from 20 countries attended the historic event, held in Moscow during the 12th annual Rotary in Russia Conference.
Russia and its Rotarians have witnessed tumultuous changes since the first club was chartered, after years of intense diplomatic negotiations, in 1990. District 2220 includes all 48 Russian clubs west of the Ural Mountains, where 90% of Russians live. Clubs east of the Urals will remain in District 5010 with clubs in Alaska, USA, and Yukon Territory, Canada.
The district is unusual for Rotary, given its vast size – the region encompasses an area about half the size of Australia – and the small number of members, about 10 to 50, in each club.
Previously, clubs in the region were divided into three different districts shared with clubs in Finand and Sweden. Under District 2220 Governor Andrei Danilenko, the Rotarians have ambitious plans to tap into the 100 million people who live in the region, which includes Moscow and St. Petersburg. Over the next three years, they plan to charter at least 30 new clubs.

THE CONTINUING PROBLEM OF THE NON-ATTENDEES, NON-APOLOGEES
Frankly, I find it almost unbelievable that in a club of supposedly intelligent and responsible people, we still have members who thumb their noses at the strict rule about apologies to Hans. If you are not going to be at a future meeting, and do not have leave of absence, you must write your name in ‘the book’ as an apology, or telephone Hans by mid-day Monday. Those of you who choose to disregard that inflexible rule are forcing the rest of us to pay for your meal!! Of course, there will be occasions when an emergency forces you to be AWL, but surely you can still PAY. The rest of us should not have to pay for you, but that is what happens.
If any of you think that is too harsh, please tell me. If your non-attendance is caused by your sudden demise, I feel sure you will be forgiven the debt, [but only once]

This Day Tonight
• Our new club banner,on a frame constructed by Fred Andrews, was proudly launched tonight.
• Our advertised programme on trains didn’t run tonight, but at least ‘stand-in’ speaker Foxy went home on one in March 1954.
• Rod Greer will be happy to sell you Xmas cards for $10 per pack and caps for $15.
• Donald Jensen and David Jantzen were proud recipients of our annual ‘Pride of Workmanship awards’, ably introduced to a packed meeting by John Calnin and Tim Kemp.
• The 2007 District Conference in Warrnambool, 2,3 and 4 March, is open for registrations. Get your application forms from me.
• Of forthcoming meetings, 26th December and 2nd January are cancelled, 5th Dec. is the Senior Citizens Xmas dinner,[at the Ocean Grove Hotel], 19th Dec is our own Xmas party, the remaining meetings in January will all be outdoor barbeques, [at the pub!], and the first meeting in February will be at Alison’s – Canadian Capers.
• The club will provide one free meal for any prospective member, but after that you or your guest must pay.
• Only three of our members are prepared to host an incoming exchange student. That is not meant to be a criticism of our membership, as very few of us have school age children, but unless there is a dramatic improvement in those numbers, this club will not be a host in 2007.
• Tim Kemp has raised $170 for RAWCS, and Coral Barker’s arty-farty mob raised $100 for the defibrillator project.
