Change-over night is Tuesday 1st July, [George to Calnin]

This gala celebration will be held at the Barwon Heads Golf Club, 6.30 for 7.00. You are all, [except the o/s recipients of this bulletin and other ‘non-Grovers’], assumed to be attending, with your partners. If not, you must apologise, well in advance. The cost is $35 per person, plus drinks. For those members who will be attending alone, registrars would appreciate two volunteers to help at the reception desk with registrations.
Exercises for People over 50 Contributed by Canadian Keith Nixon.

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, with plenty of room at each side. With a 2kg potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there for as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax. Each day, you’ll find that you can hold this position for just a little longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 4kg. sacks. Then try 8kg, and double that etc., over time. Eventually, if you can get to 32 kg. sacks, you will be at my current level.

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each of the sacks.

Stop Press – ShelterBox in Myanmar

ShelterBox has responded immediately to the devastating cyclone damage in Myanmar [Burma]. Tens of thousands of lives are reported lost and 95% of houses destroyed in the delta region.
The ShelterBox response began with 224 boxes from Dubai, 400 from Cornwell UK, and 220 from Australia. 1000 were delivered in a chartered DC-10.
ShelterBox Response Team members were granted visas and accompanied the boxes for deployment – 2 from UK, 2 from USA and 2 from Aus.
ShelterBox was one of the first organizations to be allowed into the stricken country. Its proven experience in providing humanitarian aid in 70 disasters around the world in 8 years was the telling factor.
For a great feature on this fantastic Rotary programme, see pages 30-31 of the June issue of RDU.

A hangover is the wrath of grapes. Once you’ve seen a shopping centre, you’ve seen a mall.
Ella Scheffer sent me that in September last year. I have not met, or heard of, Ella!

“ho hum” . That’s how your bulletin fella describes tonight’s club assembly

Having left all the remaining space on this page for tonight’s deliberations, I am now required, by tradition, to give you all at least a summary of what came out of our discussions. It’s easy, and one fractured word will suffice – Buggerall!

Have we all run out of ideas? The market was our only continuing project when I joined this club more than twelve years ago. What’s changed? The annual raffle is a tribute to the energy of just a few members, and our gardening projects are poorly attended and too short-lived. We are justly proud of the Xmas dinner for the oldies and the Anzac Day breakfast for the early-birds. That accounts for two days in the year!

There are other worthy ideas such as the bike events and the Seafood fest, but we desperately need a long-term project or a new idea. Trevor reminded us that we have lost more members than we have gained, and cited costs of perhaps $1600 PA. Is that the reason for the losses, or were they bored and/or disillusioned? It is not good enough for chairmen to hide behind the claim that their report will be tabled at the change-over night. We need fresh ideas, not repetitive resumes.
If that doesn’t cause some of you to cancel your subscriptions, nothing will!

In a valiant effort to fill up the remaining space,
The bowelscan project is up 10%. 10% of what, you may well ask..
The Ocean Grove township celebrates 50 years in October. We are to be processionists
Helen Trigg reckons we are the odd-club-out by perpetuating a joining fee for new members. I agree.
