The Human Touch

‘Tis the human touch in this world that counts,
The touch of your hand and mine,
Which means far more to the fainting heart
Than shelter and bread and wine.
For shelter is gone when the night is o’er,
And bread lasts only a day,
But the touch of the hand and the sound of the voice
Sing on in the soul alway.

Penned, about the year of Rotary’s birth, by Rotarian Dr. Spencer M. Free a top-ranking American surgeon and amateur poet,

About Rotary
Rotary is a global network of community volunteers. Rotary members are business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
1.2 million Rotarians in some 32,000 Rotary clubs covering 165 countries carry out service projects in their local communities and abroad to address such critical issues as poverty, health, hunger, illiteracy, and the environment.
What is a Grandparent?   Taken from papers written by a class of 8-year-olds

Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no children of their own. They like other people’s.
They don’t say ‘Hurry up’.
They wear glasses and funny underwear.
They can take their teeth and gums out.
They have to answer questions like ‘Why isn’t God married?’, and ‘How come dogs chase cats?’.

About our Club

All Rotary clubs are sponsored for membership of Rotary International by a neighboring club. Our sponsor club was the Rotary club of Drysdale in 1983. The very first Rotary club was Chicago in 1905, and the first club in Australia was Melbourne in 1921. We currently have 52 members.
All Rotary clubs meet weekly, generally accompanied by a meal. We meet at this hotel on Tuesday evenings at 6.30. All of us serve on at least one specific committee.

Rules for the DOG  We reckon most of you have a dog!    Most of us do.

The dog is not allowed in the house. A dogs place is outside.
Okay, the dog is allowed in the house, but only in some rooms sometimes.
OK, the dog is allowed in all the rooms, under supervision, but must stay off the furniture.
The dog can get on the old furniture only.
Sometimes the dog is allowed on all the furniture, but it is not allowed on the bed where humans sleep.
Okay, the dog is allowed on the bed, but only by invitation, and must not sleep there.
The dog can sleep at the bottom of the bed, but must not disturb occupants.
The dog can sleep on the bed but not under the blankets.
On a cold night, the dog can sleep under the blankets.
Humans may sleep in the bed provided they do not disturb the dog.

Answer to the commonality of the words Banana, Dresser, Grammar, Potato, Revive, Uneven & Assess:
Take the first letter, place it at the end of the word, then spell the word backwards. It’s the SAME!

An old Irish proverb to end the night!
May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rain fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand
