Oops... your audioBoo this week ends a little abruptly as there is a 5 min limit, Never-the-less, there is still some sound here for you from our President's report.
Mick Cummins was a RI ambassadorial scholar to Preston, UK, 10 years ago, with his chosen course in ‘substance abuse’. He was a mature age student with the experience and build to see and cope with a world-wide problem which he very effectively portrayed in his illuminating address to the club.
Mick is convinced that his reports on this ever-present problem fell on Officialdom deaf ears in Australia, but he must surely have made a great impact in his 52 Rotary presentations in the UK!

November is Rotary Foundation Month
“When we invest in our Rotary Foundation, we are investing in our future – in a better world for the needy, and for us all. Our Foundation’s strength lies in Rotary’s membership. A family foundation, created and supported by the entire family of Rotary.
Our Foundation relies not on the great wealth of the few but on the regular contributions of the many. It relies on every Rotarian, every year. This is why we ask every Rotarian to contribute what they can – and we ask those who are in a position to contribute more to do so. Glenn E. Estess, 2009-10 Rotary Foundation Chair.
Ed .note. Your direct donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible, and 100% effective. Admin. costs are funded by interest on investments. Contact Geoff Brentnall for further details.
I bet you were never game enough to use this approach!
A young man goes to his girlfriend’s father to ask for permission to marry. A somewhat imperious father says, “So you want to be my son-in-law do you?” “Not particularly,” says the young man, with a somewhat lack of tact. “but if I want to marry your daughter, I don’t seem to have much choice!”
R.O.S.E. [Rotarians Orphan Students Exchange]
Judy Greer is seeking local home hosts for four Thai students, for about five days from Sunday 17th January. Two females and two males, all year 9 students with some English, seeking to develop verbal communication skills, and currently hosted by RC Eaglehawk. Donations in kind. A really first-class project
Secy. Vic. e-mailed us all about this last Wednesday. If you ignored it, please go back and read about the district DIK project, and if you have never seen it in operation at North Geelong’s depot [behind Osborne House], take a trip out there on any Tuesday or Wednesday between 9 and 12. They sent off 19 shipping containers of donated goods to needy countries last year.
Thought for the week Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.
