  • RSVPs for our Change Over dinner are due in. Please email Rod Greer
  • Annual reports are due in by the end of this week
  • John Paton attended the Queenscliff Change Over Dinner with the idea of strengthening ties between the two clubs. They may call for volunteers to help at the Queenscliff Bricks expo, which would be a good way to build that rapport.
  • New positions on the board for next year are: Peter Cowburn (Treasurer) and Martin Geerings (Secretary)
  • Our thoughts have been with Norm, Vic and Helen after recent surgeries. All are doing well.
  • The board has been informed that the District Grant of $3000 has been approved for the Solemaid Community School and will be matched $ for $.
  • The Club has been asked if they would like to be involved in some way at the Relay 4 Life in November, more info on that to come
  • June 29th, volunteers are required to man the gates at the Geelong West Football Club, which will earn $500
  • Geelong & District Football Association has offered us the job of manning the gates at the finals again this year, and earning $3000 by doing so
  • Last Sunday's market was a success, with plenty of stalls and $724.85 raised in donations towards the Shelter Box.
  • Winner of Footy Tipping this week was Margaret Everett, Geoff Chandler, still the overall leader.
  • If you are interested in being on the Lookout roster, please see Noel
  • The Rotary Engines Mega Swim team is still looking for swimmers who can volunteer some of their time to swim over the 24hour event. Our aim is to have 15 in the team, so sign up and start training! If you can't swim, maybe you can help out or sponsor someone in the team.
Outbound Exchange Student applicant – Samantha Graverner
Sam's Grandfather is a Rotarian, and it was through him that she became aware of the program. She is 15 years old and in Year 10 at St Ignatius College. Sam has lived in Ocean Grove for most of her life and is very excited to be considered for this program. She is very interested in living in and experiencing another culture. We wish her well in her interview in Ballarat.

Antique Aircraft – Matt Grigg
Matt is a Civil Engineer who has lived most of his life in Ballarat, and only recently moved to Geelong. He has a passion for antique aircraft and has spent around 17 years researching and restoring a Wirraway aircraft. His interest developed as a young boy attending air shows with his father, and it was at the 1992 Avalon Airshow that his love for antique aeroplanes began; he was particularly taken by a Boomerang warplane.
By 1996, at the age of 13 he bought his first aeroplane - very much a works in progress!

His aim is to restore it to look like this:

The Wirraway was Australia's first mass produced aeroplane, with a total production of 755 made. Today there are only 4 left in flying condition. Matt has built up a collection of original drawings and parts sourced from all over Australia, which he uses to fabricate new parts. He is now at the stage of starting to assemble some of the parts. He has gained his pilot's licence and also owns a 1957 Wingeel, 1950 Auster, and did have a 1946 Globe Swift but ran out of hangar space and decided
to sell it. He has been fortunate to travel to many of the big airshows overseas, and has flown in formation at the Anzac Day ceremony at the Shrine of Remembrance this year as well as the Centenary of Military Aviation at Point Cook in March. He has served in many roles on the committee for Antique Aircraft Association of Australia and he married Karrina last October at the Tuki Trout Farm, Smeaton not just because it was a lovely venue, but it also has an airstrip!
