From the District Board: Directives have been received from the District Board relating to the recent Royal Commission into Responses relating to Child Sexual Abuse Recommendations. RI is encouraging diligence and Districts have been asked to review their circumstances and standards of care when working with Youth. The Clubs in our district are asked to complete the following three requirements in order to meet the Child Safe Standards by Jan 1st 2017 and be compliant with the Rotary Youth Protection and Insurance Policies.
1.    Rotary Youth Volunteer Information and DeclarationALL MEMBERS (and later some partners) are REQUIRED to complete a prepared form so that you are covered in a 'one on one' situation with youth. This could even occur in a working bee in a schoolyard. The process includes providing personal references and a Working with Children Check, (no cost to Rotarians). You will receive a personally named declaration form in the next few weeks. This is to be completed ASAP and returned to the Secretary (Fred) by 1st January. Leave in his letterbox if necessary. The secretary will retain completed forms.
2.    Child Safe Standards: ALL MEMBERS must be familiar with this document.  Two copies are being passed around for members to read and then sign and date an accompanying Membership List, all to be retained by the Club Secretary. A full copy of the standards is available on the District website under the Youth Tab.
3.    Each Club needs to appoint a Club Youth Protection Officer as part of its requirements. If any member is interested in taking on this responsible role please see President Judy ASAP.

Food Handlers and Responsible Serving of Alcohol:
These certificates remain current for three years from date of issue. Those who have a certificate in either category please email the Secretary with the dates of issue and check they are still current. Again ASAP.

Guests: Club Christmas Dinner.
Approximately 40 members and partners turned up wearing a great variety of 50's and 60's Rock and Roll apparel. Some even made the effort to appear as they might have in that era by wearing wigs and dying their hair, (but not the beard.) Glitzy shoes and bobby socks were abundant as were full skirts and petticoats, wide collared shirts and a variety of neckties. The Princess of Ballarat even turned up! Many members reminisced about their experiences in the days of the 50's and 60's with some funny and some romantic memories being expressed.
The meal as usual was plentiful and varied. Thanks were expressed to the chef and the staff who have been so cheerful and obliging throughout the year.
Most of the members took to the dance floor with gusto and encouragement of DJ Richard Grimmett.
