Guest Speakers: Heidi Wain and Janelle daSilva.
Heidi lives at Wallington where she ran a good cat holiday home.
She has been working with the Cathy Freeman Foundation for 11 years. She has raised $63.000 during this time and was delighted that the gold coin donation at the Easter Monday market resulted in a collection of $2915.00. Most of Heidi’s fund raising activities involve tin rattling and sausage sizzles whilst Janelle has put her love of Marathon running sponsorship to the cause.
The first area to become involved was Palm Island where Cathy Freeman was born. The main aim is to assist children in remote areas with life skills through education. At present 1600 children have been helped with appropriate tools for learning provided and the achievements of Cathy as an inspiration. The children range from pre- school to year 12. Attendance at school is encouraged by rewards and participation in sporting activities. These methods appear to be working well as attendance records are good and there is obvious development in a range of learning and life skills.
The eventual aim is to have 50 – 60% of indigenous people working in the Foundation.
It was obvious from the presentation that Heidi and Janelle are committed to this Foundation and very pleased that their involvement has resulted in satisfactory outcomes. Hopefully they will move from strength to strength and many more children are assisted.

APOLOGIES ARE NECESSARY!IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND A MEETING. THOSE WHO DO NOT CONFORM WILL BE SENT A BILL, AS THE CLUB HAS TO PAY IF NO APOLOGY IS REGISTERED.

Thank you:  A George.
