Guest Speaker: Andrea Tierney, New Member Introduction
Andrea has been living on a 20-hectare property off Grubb Road for twenty-five years with her husband, Paul, and a variety of animals. They have two daughters currently aged 21 and 23. She grew up in Geelong West.
Andrea initially worked as a laboratory assistant at the CSIRO Animal Health Laboratories, then at the Geelong Water Board and the Queenscliff Marine Centre. She took time off to raise her daughters while running a B & B in Queenscliff. She returned to work part time as an integration aide at Sacred Heart College for 13 years. Andrea is now working at a primary school assisting pupils with disabilities and is currently supporting year 1 and 2 students who have significant social problems.
She likes physical activities and is involved with the Geelong Canoe Club, the Ocean Grove Surf Club and is now learning to row.
Her interest in volunteering started with work with the Leukemia Foundations and the Breakfast Club in Geelong. She is a keen supporter of the Seven Women Foundation House in Kathmandu, where she visited the Fred Hollows Hospital and the Maiti Nepal organisation, which is fighting against the trafficking of women. All these organisations are supported by Rotary. Andrea decided to join Rotary to continue her community involvement.
Alex Magee thanked Andrea for her talk and expressed our appreciation at the breadth of her community involvement.
Thanks, Ann Hodgkinson
