Rotary Meeting 4th December 2018
President’s Report: Graeme Chamberlain welcomed the senior’s visitors to the annual Senior’s Christmas Dinner. 98 guests attended.
There will be a Board Meeting next week on the 10thDecember. Ladies lunch is on the 12thDecember. Meet at the Ocean Grove Golf Club car park at 11.30 am.
Rod Greer was MC for the dinner. He welcomed everyone attending, especially those who had achieved 90 years plus in age and still coming to the dinner. He also congratulated those having a birthday this week, mentioning Betty White who turns 90 on Friday, 7th and Judy Greer who turns 70 on the 6th December.
Rod then recounted some tales of Christmases past including times in the 1930s in the Mallee, World War 11 adventures among the wildlife at a mission on the (then) Rhodesian border, and combined faith celebrations in Singapore in the 1950s.
The band Escarpment, comprising Julie, Lee and Garry, played throughout the evening. They were presented with gifts to thank them for the wonderful music.
Marian Walton was thanked for her tremendous efforts in organising the seniors’ Dinner, with help from Bill.
The raffle was drawn with first prize of a voucher from the O.G. Bowling Club and four prizes of shortbread. The Bowling Club was thanked for the service and food for the event. Rotary drivers who helped attendees with transport were also thanked.
Neil Derrick responded on behalf of the invited guests, thanking President Graeme and Rotarians for the welcome, entertainment, food and the lovely evening. He wished all a blessed and safe Christmas.
President Graeme then closed the evening, thanking Rod Greer for his efforts. Next week the speaker will be on the Q train in Queenscliff. Rod Greer then gave a blessing.
