Presidents’ Report
DG Anthony & Heather Willson
Graeme Chamberlain conducted the ceremony to welcome Heather Willson into our Club on transfer from Wyndham Rotary Club. She was appointed to the Youth Committee. Heather was welcomed to the Club by acclamation.  Heather and her husband Gary have been in Rotary for some time and she enjoyed her time with Wyndham Rotary Club. She is looking forward to contributing to Ocean Gove Club activities in the future. Six members of her old Club attended the meeting for the changeover.
The President then introduced District Governor Anthony Ohlson. He acknowledged past District Governor, Julie Mason and Assistant Governor Di Crawford. D.G. Olson congratulated the Ocean Grove Rotary Club on the scope of their activities as witnessed at today’s Board Meeting.
This year’s international theme is ‘Be The Inspiration’, and the colours of the emblem reflect those of the current International President’s home country of Honduras. The new wheel for Rotary International is just yellow, with no blue and we are asked to use this in future. The new vision statements is:
Together we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change
-       Across the globe
-       In our communities
-       And in ourselves.

He then showed a video by Rotary International President, Barry Rassin, outlining his objectives for this year. He is asking all Clubs to hold Rotary Days to demonstrate the value of Rotary and raise awareness across their communities. He is asking them to think about achieving diversity in their memberships. He wants to double the number of Roteract Clubs to 54% of all Clubs and help create Leadership Development activities within Roteract.
Rotary Clubs should be leaders of change and be the inspiration to others.

D.G. Olson then showed a series of slides with statistics regarding the nature of Rotary membership on a global scale, in this District and within Ocean Grove Rotary Club. Membership numbers are stable globally, trending downward in this District and stable at Ocean Grove. The tendency is for equal numbers to leave and join each year. Female membership was 22% globally, 28% in this District, and 33% at Ocean Grove. Globally, Rotary members contributed 54 million hours of community service from 11 million members; at District level it was 58,000 hours and 4,200 hours at Ocean Grove. However, these figures are most likely significant undercounts of the actual contributions of Rotarians.
District 9780 currently has three Roteract Clubs with another four or five being investigated. The District 9780 Partner’s Project is‘Fight MND’. The District Conference will be held on the 22nd– 24thMarch 2019, preceded by a Golf Day. The theme will be Gold Rush. The District is planning a Rotary Relay Ride covering a 2,000-kilometre loop through all 9780 District club towns. A letter with details will come out soon.

The Hat contest was judged with money raised going to the Lift the Lid mental health project. The winners were Richard Grimmett and Elaine Elliott.

Many Thanks, Anne Hodgkinson
