Welcome – Leigh Holloway. President TAG Kemp presented Leigh Holloway with his badge, and welcomed him and his wife Meryl. Previously a member of the Rotary Club of Warrnambool, Leigh looks forward to community service in Ocean Grove.

The Four Way Test. Frank Mountford spoke to the club about the Four Way Test.
Of the things we think, say or do
    1.Is it the TRUTH?
2.Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3.Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4.Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Rotarian Herbert Taylor created the Four Way Test in 1932. It has become one of the world’s most widely printed and quoted standards of business ethics.

Club Service, Helen Trigg: It appears that attendances are generally low on the first meeting of the month due to the Club Assemblies and no guest speaker. We are continuing to improve the meals. Looking for an idea for a major fundraising idea.

Vocational Service, Geoff Brentnall for Peter Cullen: The Pride of Workmanship Awards are being considered. Under the Rotary guidelines, there will be more than one winner. The Dinner at The Gordon is coming up in November. Date to be advised next week.

International Service, Margaret Campbell: Focus continues to be on direct projects including education and health support and donations in kind.

On Youth Service, Martin Geerings: Mountain bikes have been provided for the Ocean Grove (Bellarine) Police in partnership with the Lions Club and Barwon Coast. Through the schools, we have recognised a family in need of financial assistance for schooling (10 children with a sick father) and the board will consider support. Signe continues to enjoy her Youth Exchange visit. The Siemens Science Experience program continues also under Henry’s guidance.

Community Service, John Wynn: Christmas Tree activities are coming up on November 5, 12 and December 4. We have two markets in that period and a BBQ working bee is planned mid to late January. The Blood Challenge continues and the Highway Clean-up issue regarding safety has been referred to the District.

Market, Tony Haines: Raffle tickets have been sold to stallholders, proving to be a popular interest. Please see Tony if you have any recommended stallholders. 847 cars arrived at the market and $284 was raised at the raffle. Publicity will be the focus for future markets, including caravan parks. Roster changes will be publicised via hard copy (Rod Bush) or the web site. Coral comments that exhibitors draw the people and this is where efforts need to be directed for successful markets.

From the floor: Geoff Chandler reports on the survey regarding the readership of the bulletin. Positive comments were received from 42 respondents. Of these, 29 receive the bulletin by email while 13 receive it by post. 74% read it carefully while 64% of partners read the bulletin. 80% think that it is beneficial for partners to read the bulletin.

October 19th – Mrs. Pauline Mackenzie – The History of Miniatures – PARTNERS NIGHT
October 26th – Rotary Junior Community Awards (Tony Haines)

The President has asked me to print the following message to all members:

"It is regrettable that some Rotarians have recently taken unfair advantage of their position at the microphone to express personal political views. Politics is an issue commonly avoided in normal Rotary protocol, and with good reason. The microphone is not a soap-box and the Board has agreed that any speaker who attempts to transgress in future will be interrupted and told to desist.

The Board also agreed that public squabbling has an adverse affect on the club's dignity. It is particularly disappointing when such incidents occur in the presence of new members and member's guests.

    Notes:
Coffee Night: Partners are invited to a coffee night at Barwon Orange, October 14th at 7.30pm. RSVP Oct. 11th to Karen or Jan. Hope to see you there.
