Rotary Information

Frank Mountford spoke to the meeting on the topic ‘Why join Rotary?” Rotary International Past President Richard King developed twenty reasons.

Reports

Probus, Frank Mountford: Frank and Wal Kelly will visit the Winchelsea Probus club for the first Annual General Meeting of this club. The club has 55 members.

Club Service, John Fox: John has held regular meetings with the hotel about improvements to service and cleanliness. A concern has been raised by the hotel regarding bookings. There are a number of members who fail to apologise. John will make a recommendation to the board regarding this problem. (see below*)

Community Service, John Wynn: We will be collecting for Red Cross again. A meeting night will be set aside for this task, concluding with a 7.00pm dinner with no formal program. Members can choose the areas they wish to collect in, and go in pairs. Date to be advised.
A letter will be sent to the City of Greater Geelong asking permission to clean up the walking track from Thacker Street to the Nature Reserve. If no satisfactory answer is received we may have to take down the Rotary signs on this track.
Plans are in place for the Barwon Heads walking track project which should involve a couple of weekend working bees in May.
Negotiations continue with the COGG regarding gardens and memorials at Grant’s Lookout.
Road clean ups will no longer be held.

Vocational Service, Geoff Brentnall: A recommendation will be made to the board to reintroduce “What’s new in my vocation”. These are 5 minute talks from members specifically about new developments in their field of expertise.

International Service, Margaret Campbell: Rotarians Keith Fagg and Kester Baines (Highton Kardinia) will run the Paris Marathon to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and promote Rotary’s centennial celebrations. You can sponsor Keith and Kester by sending a cheque payable to the Royal Flying Doctor Service C/- Rtn Kester Baines, PO Box 137, Belmont 3216.

Youth Service, David Tyrrell: Jan Howard is a potential candidate for an outgoing exchange student.

From the floor: Unfortunately Richard Barker has been admitted to hospital. Bill Penna thanks those who have helped with organ donor information. Assistance is required to sell raffle tickets at the market.

Brad Tattersall (Geelong Central) – Speaking for the Rotary Conference committee. A number of changes have been made to the program. There are casual registrations still available to hear the guest speakers.
