Bulletin No. 11

BULLETIN of the ROTARY CLUB of OCEAN GROVE INC.
Volume 24 No. 11
[under new management]

Notice for the meeting at the Ocean Grove Hotel, on 20 September 2005 – 6.30 pm for 7.00.

Partners are expected and guests will be welcome at this special social function. It is to be a wine tasting, [including dinner for the usual price of $18 per person]. Up to three wineries will be represented and their wines will be FREE for tasting, and orders for their wines can be taken on the night.
The guest speaker will be a wine-maker from Scotchman’s Hill winery, but non-wine-drinkers will be catered for. [ delightfully vague, that!]
Now then, don’t forget that this is an official partners night, and if you are not bringing your partner, you will have to ring Hans and advise. Otherwise, you are counted as TWO, unless you didn’t have a partner in the first place.
JOHN CALNIN will be the chairman, and John Dodgshun is to be ass’t cashier and thanker, with Martin Geerings the greeter and ass’t Sgt.

Previous Meeting

Jenny Barwick was our guest speaker and she recounted the seamier side of fire duties in the UK, but remained positive throughout an exciting time OS.

Nominations for Membership of this Club

Marion and Bill Walton have been nominated and have passed the usual formal processes. Their names are now put before you and if you have any objection to their admission, you should lodge
a written objection with secretary Dave by 23rd September.

News from RDU, August edition.

There is an article on Membership and Extension including a plan called ‘Club in a Club’ initiated by PDG Cathy Roth. Worth a Read!
Any recently inducted member should take time to read ‘Rotary Basics’, pp29-36. It would also be a handy reference for prospective members.
If you want to know what our DG looks like, turn to p43.
There are now 1,219,097 Rotarians in 32.205 Clubs, [35,490 / 1205 in Oz and surrounding Islands, not incl. NZ. There are 951,891 Paul Harris Fellows worldwide.

Birthdays and Anniversaries

I am going to print your B or A for the week commencing the date of the meeting to which the bulletin applies. e.g. if you have a birthday or anniversary between 20th and 26th September, you could expect to be reminded in this bulletin; unless you happen to be one of the 13 members who have not handed me the ‘personal particulars’ form I wanted last week.
Big Dave Cornwell has the dubious distinction of being the first of my recognitions, as he celebrates a birthday on 23rd September. Future announcements will be brief!!

The Queenscliffe Charter Night

Our very first sponsored Club deserves our fullest support. $40 per head for dinner at the View Grand Hotel, 7 for 7.30 PM on Friday 30th September. Lodge your reservation, [and money] with President Helen.

Club Snippets

Rural Ambulance Vic. has approved the de-fibulator programme, and there is talk of us all, including partners, doing a course in the use of this fascinating equipment.

The Memorial Garden Project, which most of us thought was a dead duck [ excuse the pun!], may about to be resurrected, and Geoff Chandler will explain a possible compromise at the Club Assembly on 27th September.

The vocational service committee has arranged a dinner at Davidsons’ restaurant for 18th October. We get to have exclusive use of the venue if we register a minimum of 50 bums. With that in view, partners and guests are welcome, but registrations will be sought by GB next week.

From the newsletter of DG Wayne Barrett.

There are now 60 clubs in our District 9780 and Wayne will visit them all at least once in his year of office. There are almost 2200 Rotarians at an average of about 37. We had 52 members at 3oth June, but Queenscliffe has reduced that figure by 5, already close to replaced by new members since then.

Twelve of those clubs have less than 20 members. We are the 14th largest.

End Bit

The nice thing about being senile is you can hide your own Easter eggs.
