A brief note about change-over night
JC has advised that a raffle will be run at our meeting on 4th July at the Barwon Heads Golf Club, with proceeds being directed to the Rotary Foundation. Donations of items for auction and/or ideas should be advised to him.
The cost of the dinner will be $30 per head. The requested dress for men is ‘jacket and tie’. For the ladies – ‘appropriately’. [A rather quaint way of saying that the girls are expected to ‘do us proud’].

The RI recommended structure for our Rotary Club [Adopted at a special meeting of our Board on Monday, 5th June 2006.]
President, Vice President, President Elect, Secretary, Treasurer and immediate Past President, plus other board members to head the five standing committees listed below, where not already listed amongst the six officers above
Five Standing Committees – Club Administration, Public Relations, Membership, Service Projects and The Rotary Foundation.
This is a major change to the traditional structure, and the first such change in more than 50 years. President Elect Richard will introduce the key personnel of our 2006/07 management team at the change-over night.

Out of the mouths of babes [see over
A number of primary schools were doing a project on ‘The Sea’. Kids were asked to draw pictures, or write about their experiences. Teachers got together to compare the results and assembled the following. The kids were all aged 5-8 years. There are 15 samples. I am only game to print 12- here’s the first four.
‘This is a picture of an octopus. It has eight testicles’ [Kelly, 6]
Oyster’s balls are called pearls. [James, 6]
If you are surrounded by sea, you are an island. If you don’t have sea all around you, you are in continent. [Wayne, 7]
I think sharks are ugly and mean, and have big teeth, just like Emily Richardson. She’s not my friend no more. Kylie, 6]

I shouldn’t have asked!
Noel Emselle is a member of the Rotary club of Footscray, but a regular visitor to us and a possible future member. I thought it would be educational for me to receive a copy of their bulletin. I got it!
Editor Diane McGrath has put me to shame. Four pages, multi-coloured. Squares and columns and all sorts of diagrams and photos and stuff. Not knowing what to expect, I printed it off and it just about used up my colour ink cartridge. But I am greatly impressed, - and chastened. I’ll give you a look if you like, but no expressions of pity, please.

News from the Board
12 members attended the joint meeting, where President Helen chaired her last meeting and President- Elect Richard outlined his plans for the year, with particular reference to the new ByLaws to be adopted by our members. Other items included—
* The club will purchase a first aid kit to be available at club functions and activities.
* Margaret Campbell has been granted six weeks leave.
* Members are reminded that apologies must be with Hans Franken no later than noon MONDAY
* Treasurer Coral tabled a report as at 31st May.

At this point, about 5.00 on Tuesday afternoon, my computer, FRED, decided it was sick of sending two copies of everything, and completely packed up.
To cut a very long story short, Mark Donehue revived it at 9.30 pm and if you are really lucky, you may get only one bulletin instead of two!

I wasn’t at the meeting, [which will cost me the price of the meal], but me mate Alison was and she brought me notes.
John Wynn advised that the Mirrabooka seating had been installed, and the Barwon Heads walkway seating should be in place by the end of this month.
Another defibrillator is about to be installed at the community centre/ library, and that will make five in this town to date. An illustrated article has been lodged with RDU.
Richard also introduced the new club structure and the innovative Board of Directors arrangement.
The leadership plan includes long range strategies, simplifies the committee structure and involves more members than in the past
Members are urged to carefully study the draft Club By-Laws and be prepared to openly discuss and debate them at our meeting on 13th June, and vote on them on 20 June Thank you Alison
