Childrens’ versions of the Bible Stories, episode 4 of 9. My proof reader observes that none qualify!
Queen Elizabeth was the “Virgin Queen”. As a Queen she was a success. When she exposed herself before her troops they all shouted “hurrah” and that was the end of the fighting for a long while.
It was an age of great inventions and discoveries. Gutenberg invented removable type and the Bible.. Another important invention was the circulation of blood.
Sir Walter Raleigh is a historical figure because he invented cigarettes and started smoking.

‘Good Manners in Rotary’
I mentioned this 20 page booklet last week and expressed the personal observation that the title was misleading or inappropriate. ‘Protocol’ might be more suitable than ‘Good Manners’. Perhaps! Your editor has a supply available, and for most members, there will be nothing new, but a refreshing of attitudes might not go amiss! It is not the sort of publication that needs to be constantly referred to, but it is easily read and could then be passed on to another member.
I have been a member of only two Rotary clubs, and there are features of my present club which are far superior to the first. But there is one feature of the Ocean Grove Rotary club which, at least to me, stands out like the ’proverbial’, and that is the tendency by some members to engage in ‘soto voce chatter’ [to coin a polite phrase] whilst the President, Chairmen and other club speakers are at the microphone. It is obvious, and [at least in my personal opinion] an excellent example of what is NOT good manners.
The duties of the Sergeant-at-Arms gets 2.5 pages of the booklet, and ‘maintaining order’ gets a prominent mention. Our habitual offenders should read the book, but unfortunately, they probably don’t think they are offending.

Good public relations and the promotion of Rotary, is our responsibility
Every member of our club was handed three mini publications last week, - ‘What’s Rotary’,’2005 facts of the Rotary Foundation’, and ‘Every Rotarian Every Year’, [the Centurian Guide]. The first two of those little booklets should be handed to any potential member at any opportunity. Your editor has plenty available in any quantity. The very best promotional medium is personal contact.

A message from our President
With the promise of a visit from the Minister of Health, a new grant from the City of Greater Geelong [$2600], and the donation of a defibrillator from HBA, the PAD project is going ahead in leaps and bounds
The shopfront has proven to be a great benefit to this project and will be the venue for both the minister’s visit and the HBA announcement. So there will be plenty of activity at the Shell Road site in the coming weeks. Let’s grasp this opportunity while we can – great exposure for Rotary, a unique chance to have our own ‘prime retail’ space for no cost! So what’s for sale – fellowship, ethics in vocation and business, the ideal of service, international understanding, goodwill and peace. All this for the price of a little time and effort
I hope to see you at the shop for the coming events.
Thanks to John Fox for the recent article on educational programs of the Rotary Foundation. We often forget that Rotary is about international understanding and peace, and it is timely that we are reminded of the Rotary Peace and Conflict Programs and Fellowships at a time of such unrest in our world.
Remember that Tim Kemp and Co. will be calling shortly for your unwanted [or un-needed] tools, books, toys and any other useful items for the Donations-in-Kind project.
I spoke with Lisa Neville at our change-over dinner about the Bellarine Police Community Support Register. Be sure not to miss the next meeting when we will hear from Anne Nichol and Gary Coombes about this great initiative for our seniors.

Alex Magee is a fair dinkum Irish Australian enthusiast for football of the round or oval ball variety!
A grinning vision splendide in yellow and white, mate of a quartet of Greek Aussies, a purveyor of kilts, [and that’s the naked truth], Alex ‘fluked’ a package that included just about everything worth having at the World Cup of Soccer and was a great ambassador for our country. Thirty airborne hours to Frankfurt seemed only to prepare Alex for his invasion , with several thousand other Aussies, of Germany and the discovery that there are 3 stubbies to the stein.
Soccer, at World Cup level, is the biggest sporting event on the world calendar. Alex was THERE and loved every minute of it. A very entertaining and informative talk from an enthusiast. Well done, Alex!!
