A gift from HBA

The Rotary Club of Ocean Grove received a gift today and a boost to the PAD project when HBA ambassador and two time World Champion Triathlete Emma Carney visited the shopfront to present the club with a defibrillator. The unit was made available by HBA from the supply used for the Commonwealth Games.

Before presenting the defibrillator to club president, Richard Grimmett, Emma spoke of her personal experience of sudden cardiac arrest while training. Emma's experience demonstrates that anyone can suffer cardiac arrest at any time. Emma said that if a defibrillator was available she would have been treated immediately, but it was only because her heart was strong due to training that she survived the extra vital minutes until help arrived. Because of her condition she now has a tiny defibrillator implant.

Rotary District Governor Andrew Suggett was present, along with Assistant Governor, Alan Ollis. Wal Kelly, the driving force behind the program to instal 10 units in the Ocean Grove community is pictured with the Andrew near a unit in the local shopping centre at Shell Road.
