PAD saves life in Sydney

Approximately 33,000 Australians (equivalent to about 500 busloads of people) die of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) every year making it our most common cause of sudden death. Cardiac arrest kills more people than breast cancer, road accidents and shootings combined and is a major health issue. The reason is simple – with every minute that defibrillation is delayed, a victim's chance of survival decreases by 10 percent. The only opportunity to save an arrest victim is at the scene. Without ready access to cardiac responder equipment and trained first-aiders, victims rarely survive.

The Rotary Club of Ocean Grove is leading the way in the placement of Public Access Defibrillators in the community. These life-saving automatic first aid devices can be used by untrained people to save a life in the critical minutes before an ambulance arrives.

Rotary leads the way, with forward-thinking and proactive community initiatives.
