Distorted Nursery Rhyme No. V
Hey diddle diddle, the cat took a piddle,
All over the bedside clock.
The little dog laughed to see such fun,
Then died of electric shock. Surely, it’s the cat that should have got deaded?

What are the guidelines for using the Rotary name and Emblem?
The Rotary name and gearwheel emblem are recognized throughout the world and associated with innumerable examples of community service. RI’s trademarks, known collectively as the Rotary Marks, include Rotary, Rotarian, Rotaract, Service Above Self, and many other words, as well as the emblems and logos of RI and Rotary Foundation programmes and projects. Using them in association with our club projects is a great way to help create a positive public image for both our club and Rotary as a whole.
To maintain the value and integrity of the Rotary Marks the RI Board of Directors created rules for using them. Keep these guidelines in mind when using the Rotary name and emblem.
• Reproduce the Rotary emblem in its complete form. Approved graphics are available for download at www.rotary.org.
• When using the Rotary name and emblem in conjunction with a club project, include our club name. This will give our club the credit it deserves.
• If our club is thinking about selling products that feature the Rotary name or emblem as a fundraiser, we must find out whether we need a license. We must E-mail RI’s Licensing Section to confirm at rilicensingservices@rotary.org. cont’d o/page.
• Purchase Rotary merchandise only from licensed vendors.
By following these guidelines, you help ensure that RI maintains central ownership of all its trademarks. guaranteeing that they continue to represent the humanitarian efforts of Rotarians for many years to come.
Find a list of trademarks at www.rotary.org/resources/copyright.html, and RI-licensed vendors at www.rotary.org/support/licensee.

A couple more Sports Commentator slip-ups
“This really is a lovely horse. I once rode her mother.” Ted Walsh – horse racing commentator.
“ The lead car is absolutely unique, except for the one behind it, which is identical.”
Murray Walker – F1 racing commentator.

Rypen and Ryla are the best youth projects
Tony Haines chaired a really top agenda for tonight’s meeting. Paul Listro couldn’t make it at the last moment, but Brandon Davey and Guy Tyzack presented an excellent power point presentation of their recent participation in the RYPEN weekend in SA. Numerous challenges, teamwork and a lot of camaraderie and fun were the highlights of a sponsorship by our club which shows that we don’t need a long-term commitment to make a very successful youth project.

A lot of bits and pieces
• Peter Hawthorne is appreciative of the excellent support from members with the transplant raffle. If there is any room at the end of this segment, I will print excerpts from the transplant statistics.
• We had two visiting Rotarians tonight, PP John Watts, [Chairman of the district RYPEN committee], and PP Kevin Lyons, District chairman of RAWCS. Kevin introduced the latest Rotary health issue – ‘Rotarians against Malaria.’ Phil Edwards was a guest of President Richard.
• The OG Surfside centre has expressed appreciation for our presentation of a defibrillator.
• The Brentnells and the Kemps are having a fun time in Spain. We are informed, by postcard, that driving and navigating is a little [their emphasis, not mine] stressful, but the excellent food and drink are antidotes!
• The district selection committee has approved the DG for 2009/10 – PP Chris Sims of the RC of Highton Kardinia. Our very own PP Helen Trigg cops the inquisition in two years time, [for 2011/12].
• You may recall the recent announcement that we would not have to do the annual ‘Red Cross Calling’ in future. Well, that advice was premature, and we are expected to continue. Do I hear a muted hurrah?
• Don’t forget the Bob Merriman night at the Lonsdale GC on Monday, 21/5, 6.30 for 7. Ph 52582932.
• PP Coral Barker reported having received $805 from Cycling Australia. At the Board meeting a couple of hours later, she reported total loot on hand of $31,035.35. The Board members are intent on reducing that figure.
• On the subject of finance, we board members sent off $US1500 to the RC of Southampton, CA, to match their same contribution to the Bio Sands Water Filter project. This qualifies our combined effort for an RI ‘matching grant’ to bring the total to $US6000.
• Laurie Fleay won the footy tipping comp. [AGAIN]
• The Geelong branch of the Australia – East Timor Association is hosting a two course fundraising dinner at ‘Dromoland’ on Friday, 8th June. First Lady Kirsty Sword Gusmao will be guest speaker. A full page of further details are available from your bully editor, but phone Brian Edwards on 5222 6986 for bookings.
• President Richard queried our attendance record by reference to district lists. Frankly, it’s not too good. We managed 69.87% in January, the most recent figures available, but when it is considered that only 12 clubs in a district of 61 managed 80% or better, we are not the worst, only 32nd
• .Incoming DG Ric Robertson will pay his official visit to us on Tuesday 24th July. That’s all folks!
