This story comes from me Pommie mate, Robin Stevens, who is a regular contributor

A cabbie picks up a Nun. She gets in and notices that the handsome cabbie is staring at her. She asks why.
He replies, “I have a question to ask you, but I don’t want to offend”.
She answers, “My son, you cannot offend me. When you’re as old as I am, and been a nun as long as I have, you get to see and hear just about everything. I’m sure there is nothing you could say or ask that I would find offensive.”
“Well, I’ve always had a fantasy to have a nun kiss me”. She responds, “ Well, let’s see what we can do about that, but first, you must be single, and Catholic”. “I am, I am”, he said, excitedly.
“OK”, the nun says. “Pull into that next alley”. His fantasy is full-filled with a kiss that would make a hooker blush. But when they get back onto the main road, the cabbie starts to cry.
“My dear child”, says the nun, “why are you crying?”.
“Forgive me but I have sinned. I lied and I have to confess. I’m married and I’m Jewish.”
The nun says, “that’s OK. My name is Kevin and I’m going to a Halloween party”.
[My proof reader reckons I should avoid religion and sex, but at least there’s no politics in it].

Ambassadorial Scholarships _Part 2 of 2

In order to sponsor a scholar for a given year, the Rotary district must allocate the appropriate amount to ‘Educational Programs’ for the program year during which the scholar will go abroad The amount required to sponsor each type of scholarship or grant is set in advance for each program year, and although your editor does not have the latest costing, the 2005/06 figure was US$25,000.
Now that is a very big commitment from the Foundation, and probably, greater that a Rhodes scholarship.
November is Rotary Foundation Month

DG Ric. urges us all to become donors to the Rotary Foundation, whether as a Centurion, a sustaining member or a benefactor. A Centurion agrees to give AUD$100 to the Foundation each year, so long as they can afford it, a sustaining member is one who continues to do so, and a benefactor commits $1,000 or more to the Foundation through their will.
The first two categories give the donor a 100% tax deduction. We currently have 8 Centurions, which is not a very good score out of 48 members. Remember, the Rotary Foundation is almost certainly the only charity in the world where ALL of the contribution goes to a specific program, as the administration costs are covered by the interest earned from investing the annual contributions for three years prior to final direction.
Your editor will forward on your contributions on request, or you may lodge payment direct with the District Chairman, Steve Hill, 12 Casuarina Court, Mount Gambier SA 5290.

A couple of things you probably didn’t know

• Fifteen of our sixty District Rotary Clubs have a Lady Club President. That’s 25%, and I venture to say that not one of those clubs have 25% or more female membership. Ours is 12.5%.
• It is virtually impossible [at present] to drive from the Costa Hall in Gheringhap St. to the Carlton Hotel in Malop St., particularly at night and in the rain. Just ask Geoff Chandler or John Fox.

A closed mouth gathers no feet.

This day tonight

• Phil Edwards drew ‘Efficient’ in the club sweep and won $100. The minor placings are not worthy of recognition!
• Funny thing, but in the only other Rotary club of which I have been a member, the camaraderie and fellowship were nowhere near as good as it is in the RC of Ocean Grove, but in terms of supporting the club’s social functions, our Rotary club’s record is appalling. 39 attendees [out of a possible, with partners, of about 90] ,at what was a very enjoyable evening, was a disgrace. Why is it so??
• 29 Ocean Throughway measured about 50mm of rain last weekend, which explains why 12 market stall-holders turned up on Sunday, but left shortly thereafter.
• Helen Trigg promoted Xmas hams and turkeys available from the RC of Geelong; so, for the benefit of the 60% of the club who didn’t turn up, your editor can provide a photocopy of the order form if required.
• The annual financial statements for our club, with respect to year ended 30th June 2007, will be tabled for adoption at next week’s AGM. In very brief summary, the administration account ended with a deficiency of $630, which is 1.32% of the admin. expenditure, and therefore, a reflection of very good budgeting. The charities account produced a surplus of income over expenditure of $929, but the important figure is what we spent before arriving at that result - $36,061, all to charities.

A well-planned life With thanks to me Canadian mate, Keith Nixon.

Two women met for the first time since graduating from high school. One asked the other, ”You were always so organized at school, did you manage to live a well planned life?”
“Yes”, said her friend. “My first marriage was to a millionaire, my second marriage was to an actor, my third to a preacher, and now I’m married to an undertaker.”
Her friend asked, “What do those marriages have to do with a well planned life?”
“One for the money, two for the show, three to get ready and four to go.”
Only the cleverest and artistic of my readers will get that!

Never test the depth of the water with both feet.
