About those cows of Bill’s

A French Company:
You own two cows You go on strike because you want three.

A Japanese Company:
You own two cows. You come up with a way of making them ten times smaller and producing twenty times more milk. Then you create a pop-up book about a clever cow named Cowimono and sell them across the globe:
A Chinese Company:
You own two cows, and three hundred people to milk them. You report full employment, tight productivity of the herd and then arrest the journalist who published the figures.

Elementary, my dear Watson

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson went on a camping trip. After a meal and a bottle of wine, they lay down for the night and went to sleep.. Some hours later, Holmes awoke and nudged his faithful friend.
“Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see”. Watson replied: “I see millions and millions of stars.”
“What does that tell you”, Holmes questioned. Watson pondered for a minute. “Astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, I observe that Saturn is close to Leo. Horologically, I deduce that the time is about a quarter past three. Theologically, I can see that God is all powerful and that we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, I suspect that we will have a bountiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you?”
Holmes answered……..”Someone has stolen our tent.”

In the early days of England, when people lived in timber huts, they would hammer in a wooden board along the side wall to hold their possessions. Another would be put close by to hold cups. Over the years they evolved and became enclosed with a top, sides and doors, but we still called them the ‘Sideboard’ and the ‘cupboard’.

The Rotary Heritage Park [Lookout reserve]
This important project is the subject of a two page report, and is in three parts. The ‘discussion and Initial Planning’ and ‘Vision’ is reprinted hereunder, and the other two parts will follow in successive weeks.

Discussion & Initial Planning
Meeting on site with Genevieve Twyford [COGG Recreation & Open pace Officer], Noel Emselle, Bill Walton, Geoff Chandler & Rod Greer discussed the COGG requirements for preparing a plan & costing for Council approval. Cr Jan Farrell has allocated $10,000 from her 2009/10 budget to the project, and our club will make a significant financial contribution. The following recommendations follow extensive discussions and inspection.
Vision
To develop the lookout reserve into an attractive and interesting historical focal point for OG, which will attract people, not only to the views, but also to the understanding of the history of the Ocean Grove area. The Lookout Reserve will be renamed to reflect this aim.

Many Happy Returns
Three old diggers meet at a restaurant for lunch. They sit down at a table, and while waiting to be served, one of them says, “Hey, Bluey, isn’t this your 50th wedding anniversary?”. Bluey replies,”Yeah”. “Well, what are you planning on doing?”.
Bluey replies,” Well, I remember taking the missus to Alice Springs for my 25th”. “Well”, the old digger asks, “What are you planning for your 50th?” I’m goin’ back to pick her up.”

This Day Tonight
Helen Trigg was tonight awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship for service to the club & the community.
Annual subscriptions of $185 are now due, payable to the Treasurer.
Annual reports and the little blue [white] books are available from secretary Vic
Ingrid Cummins is our new merchandise officer.
Phil. Edwards would like fellow members to assist in inducing potential sponsors to boost our market coffers. [‘Leaning’ on Club Grove committee members is one suggestion]
Rotarians Anthony Barnett and Alicia Carroll presented tonight’s address on ‘Children’s Literacy in Geelong’, an enterprising and much needed project based on the theme ‘Telling Tales and Reading Rhymes’ [The Geelong Festival of Storytelling]. Commenced in 2006, this project now has 100 contributors and has become an extensive research project.

The most important invention in the history of warfare [prior to gunpowder] was the stirrup, invented in China around AD322. It gave the horse rider greater stability, enabling him to fight more affectively.
