When asked where Rotary was going George Bernard Shaw said ‘to dinner’.
President Rod’s emphasis on future activities reminds us that table- fellowship is our starting point and not our end. Last meeting he mentioned the following;
Dinner Venue: We will stay at the present venue until Club Grove’s building program is completed.
Drought Relief: We may send members to a forthcoming drought-relief BBQ at Bangarang (near Warracknabeal).
DIK Containers: To be supported to the value of $1000.
Local Probus ’25 Year’ Publication: To be supported to the value of $300.

A feasibility study is to be carried out by a group comprising Ian Downing (convenor), Carol Barker, Dick Clay - and to which Richard Trigg and Richard Grimmett are invited. The group’s report (including a business plan) is to be presented to the Board in October 2009 (thus allowing for a twelve month lead-time).
Vocational Service (John Eyles): Noting that ‘vocational service’ is one of Rotary four original avenues of service; discussion centred on (i) continued support for industry visits with Shell, Ford and the Kalamata olive farm in mind (ii) the promotion of vocational excellence through ‘Pride in Workmanship’ Awards (with a targeted award in October); (iii) the development of a roster for ‘Member Vocational Talks; (iv) another Davidson Restaurant Night around May next year; (v) a possible apprentice award for excellence or Rotary Shine Award participation.
Youth (Judy Greer): (i) There was to be continued support for RYPEN, RYLA and programs such as National Youth Science Forum, The Seimans Science Award and similar; (ii) Community youth related support requests (Neighbour Centre etc) were to be encouraged; (iii) There were discussions on drought and bush-fire relief; the provision of holiday experiences for orphan children in collaboration with Eaglehawke Rotary; possible participation in a volunteer youth program in Cambodia conducted by Kerang Rotary (as an alternative to Schoolies Week).
(Space limitation prevents the full publication of each report. Some include comments on the long-term goals of the Club.
All have been passed on to President Rod)
Your Bulletin:
Following John Fox is a very hard act to follow! Future bulletins will have a very different format. Time has not been on your new editor’s side for this issue. Hopefully future issues will still have space for the light-hearted and the whimsical. I suppose I could say that my wholly unexpected elevation to this lofty role is a good example of the old saying that if you don’t know where you’re going, don’t be surprised when you get there!
