Care Packs: Judy and I will purchase material for the care-packs and get a few willing volunteers to help pack them after Rotary in preparation for the District Governor’s visit on September 1st.
We’re supporting the BBQ at Bangerang, near Warracknabeal on Sunday 16 August. Hope they have a good day (and some rain later!).
‘Pride of Workmanship’ Award. Have you a nomination for October 20th? Get one in to John Eyles, ASAP!
Our Heritage Park group is waiting to have another meeting with Council Officers
Community Expo October 10: Please check your calendars to see if you can help to staff the Rotary stand at the Expo.
Matching Grants: Your Board has committed the Club to supporting another Matching Grant Project. This time it is to help build an amenities block for girls at their schools in India. Eddie Loughnan has done the hard yards and we believe this is the best way forward for us to be involved.
Keep in mind good prospective members, Noel will report on the findings of the survey at the August 25 meeting. Anyone who missed the survey and would like to do it is asked to contact Noel.
Forthcoming Group Presidents Meeting: Bus advertising for Rotary will begin soon in the Geelong area and go for six months (check club website links).
Next Year’s District Conference: A reminder that I will soon be looking for ‘Home Hosts’ to help provide some extra accommodation. Please let me know if you are interested.
More News on the Youth Front: Judy Greer advises that in January 2010 (most likely before the Australia week-end) we will be caring for four to five students aged between 14 and 15 years from an orphanage in Thailand. The young people are being hosted by the Rotary Club of Eaglehawke as part of their ‘Rotarians Orphan Students Exchange Program’ (R.O.S.E.). The students who are going home in February next are doing a year’s ‘immersion’ in English at Bendigo schools. They have ‘reasonable English already and need to develop wider communicative skills in the language. Their time in Ocean Grove will be organised by the Youth and International Committees and Judy will soon be looking for hosts. Police checks will be required. Those interested can obtain the necessary forms from Judy.
Members’ Milestone Events: We will go on publishing birthdays and anniversaries according to the information provided to the Club by members when they join the Club. If anyone would prefer not to have such information published or if there are errors or amendments please inform the Secretary (less likely, one supposes, in the case of birthdays!). The Editor has been reminded, among other things, that to omit this information is to deny the Sergeant useful evidence for fines.
Bulletin Content: We are always looking for informative and current pictorial and written material. We are not a gossip column, of course, but how Rotarians live out the ‘four way test’ at work and at play often provides interesting and instructive copy - for all the right reasons! Members are our front line reporters – keep it coming!
