‘From President Rod at the Chalkboard’:
District Governor’s Visit – Tuesday 1st September: This will be a Partners’ Night (those with partners will be double-booked automatically unless Hans receives contrary advice beforehand). I am reliably informed that Chris is a fantastic speaker. Please make every effort to be there with partners to welcome Chris and Christine Sims. It is a not to be missed opportunity to hear more about the wider significance of Rotary – in our District and beyond.
Bush Fire Relief: We have committed $2000 to our District’s Bushfire Relief effort as part of a Rotary project in Marysville.
‘Pride of Workmanship’ Award: A reminder about nominations for October 20th - please get yours to John Eyles as soon as possible
Community Expo October 10: Richard Grimmett is still looking for your help to staff the Rotary stand at the Expo.
International Service: Thank you Alison for ‘volunteering’ to act as International Chairperson in James absence.
Next Year’s District Conference: A reminder that I will soon be looking for ‘Home Hosts’. Please let me know if you are interested.
Support for Eaglehawke’s Orphan Students Exchange Program: A reminder also that in January 2010 we will be caring for some Thai orphans studying English in Bendigo. Again we will be looking for home hosts. See Judy for more details.
The Rotary Path: A Rotary Club’s future depends on the members it hasn’t yet attracted. Noel Emselle will tell us more about our recent membership survey next meeting. The Editor was drawn to Rotary by others’ exemplary qualities and kept there by their fellowship. When he was inducted into Australia’s first Rotary Club - the Rotary Club of Melbourne was chartered in April 1921 – one or two of its charter-members were still in attendance. Its numbers included some of Australia’s greatest figures. All were community minded; all gave their utmost to the Rotary cause; all were vocationally committed and sociable and unpretentious table-fellows. It was the same everywhere one went in Rotary (given that one visited a lot of Rotary Clubs in the days of mandatory make-ups!). Other things have changed over the years but not Rotary’s membership ideals.
District 9780 Club Performance Awards 2009-2010: These include The Rotary Foundation’s Brumley-Carr Shield and Eddie Loughnan Shield; Australian Rotary Health Award; The Lange Trophy; Preserve Planet ‘Environmental Good Practice’ and ‘District Heritage’ Awards; The Aitken ‘Publicity and Media’ Award; Bulletin Award; The De Garis Trophy; The Holmes Trophy; The Ron Beetham Memorial Award; The Grainger Shield; The District Administration Award. For further details see the Secretary or the Bulletin Editor. Perhaps we should be thinking about one or another of these performance measures?
