From The Presidium:
• Program and Guest Speakers: Last week’s fourteen Junior Community Award recipients show how wrong are those who lack faith in today’s youth. Would we - the Rotarians teachers and parents in attendance that night - have been as accomplished as these young people when we were Grade 6 students?
• 20 October - Pride of Workmanship Awards: This will be a Partners’ Night. Please book accordingly.
• 22 November - ‘Rod’s Run For Rotary Foundation: $10 for three guesses of his finish and predicted times. Rod says he expects to take longer than an hour. If he could do it in little more than an hour he’d be a long-shot bet for the Melbourne Cup.
The Rotary Story And How We Should Be Shaping It:
Successive District Governor’s Newsletters report the demise of two Rotary Clubs in District 9780 (Boort and Apollo Bay Otway). Such events remind us that survival factors for community organisations are many and complex - and often left unrecognised and unmanaged until too late. A Rotary Club’s ongoing viability these days depends on how ‘professionally’ it manages attrition, recruitment and retention so as to remain open and attractive to all with the qualities of heart and mind required of Rotarians. Broad-based vocational spread and fellowship-compatibility for younger working people are important factors in a movement where retiree numbers and median ages are increasing.

The Missing Episode:
The Editor apologizes for not having issue 15/09 on the news-stand last week. He didn’t press the right button to get the copy to Richard Grimmett. Hard copies were tabled at the last meeting and it’s archived on the Blog. Hence you can read two Bulletins this week

Greeter and Assistant Sergeant: Marion Walton
(Not always possible of course and there is a small cash float held at the reception table BUT it is a tremendous help when attendees pay the exact amount of $20 per head on arrival.)
