Guest speaker: Debbie Gill.

Debbie teaches people at the Geelong Aquatic Centre to work with disabled children. She is one of four people in Victoria qualified to do this and she works internationally in this field. At the moment there are up to 160 children in the program which runs on Saturdays from 1.00p.m. to 4.00p.m.

Debbie emphasized the importance of teaching all children to swim especially the disabled who may need these skills if they experience difficulties in or near water. The work is challenging and rewarding. The connections with the Rainbow Club have ceased so fund raising is now high on the agenda, so donations are always welcome as are volunteers. Cost for one child is $80.00. Children have 30 minutes each week. Debbie reflected the joy these children have as they are treated as individuals who have special intelligence and physical capacities, and in the water they develop and grow in confidence. This may be a project for us to support.

Did you know….?

. Embryos of tiger sharks fight each other while in their mother's womb, the survivor being the baby shark that is born.

. The oyster is usually ambisexual. It begins life as a male and becomes a female. It may go back and forth many times.

Human thigh bones are stronger than concrete. (I think Ingrid and I might have an argument about this).
