Notes and reminders:
- There was an apology from Tom Attard and his family as they could not attend the meeting due to commitments at school. He will address the Club at a later date.
- Some wives accompanied husbands as it was Valentines Day, the chocolate heart was much appreciated.
- A presentation of $750.00 was made to the Men's Shed representative. They will continue their involvement wiyh the Market as Bob the Builder.
- Gerry Spencer reported that the Bowls competition is going well.
- Jane Cox, the Assistant Governor was welcomed. Jane reminded us that Rotary Radio continues and needs our support especially with speakers from Clubs about their projects and activities. Contact Jane or Ron Kokel at the Corio Bay Rotary Club.
- New Generations – Anne Hodgkinson reported that the only candidate for RYLA is our scholarship holder from the Gordon. High Schools have been contacted about RYPEN.
Graham Bath awards, given annually, need another coordinator as Tony Haines is unable to do the job this year.
- Car Raffle result. Geoff Ford told us that a man from Warracknabeal won the main prize and our Bill Steains won the Camper Van!!!!!
- Norm Elliot is coming along slowly and will be home soon.
- Ingrid Cummins is making steady progress.
- Art Show. Coral Barker presented a comprehensive report which I will attempt to précis.
The Art Show will be a permanent event and will therefore qualify to be in the district calendar of events. It needs a major prize pool to attract a high standard of entries, which encourages a good attendance, which in turn keeps our sponsors happy

Solutions:
There is no suitable place in Ocean Grove because of security, cost and availability. Subject to Board approval the new hall complex run by the Primary school at Point Lonsdale is an ideal venue that ticks all the boxes and meets the requirements for space, security, storage, lighting, kitchen, furniture, car parking and location.
The Raffle: There will be a small raffle with tickets being sold mostly by the nominated beneficiaries. Any tickets not sold will be sold at the show by the Rotarians.
Length of Show: There will only be two selling days
Lighting: There will be no need to provide extra lighting.
Signage: Discussion/negotiation with COGG about this and other promotion will be ongoing.
Sponsorship: This will be in place by the end of April and is being managed by Ian Downing and a small band of helpers. The prize money will be the same as last year, and the same generous sponsors have agreed to participate again this year.
The major beneficiaries are; Cottage by the sea, Disabled Surfers and Riding for the Disabled. The remaining quarter of the money will be distributed by the Club to local projects.
Martin Geerings has drawn up a budget with a proposed profit of $14,000 -$15,000.
We want this Art Show an event to be proud of and the support of the members of the club is needed.
Guest Speaker. District Governor Elect, Helen Trigg.
An interpretation and snapshot of her visit to the USA for the training which DGE's have before becoming head honcho!
First week. Home hosting program ran like clockwork unlike the non arrival of luggage. It was in Chicago. The town was Corning of Corning ware fame. There was some sightseeing including the Corning glass museum and Wal-Mart. There were many differences – toilets, traffic lights, driving, guns, mostly Japanese cars, housing, fencing(lack of), electricity, cost of petrol and size of meals.
Second week. This was in San Diego. Hard work, punctuality and longish hours were the order of the day.
There were 1200 DGE's in attendance with another 1800 plus helpers and "officials".
The daily program was highly organized in a very professional and friendly environment, and consisted of Breakfast, Plenary session, group breakout, Lunch, Aerobics, Plenary session (followed by a stiff drink). The talent Night posed a problem as national dress was required, however the didgeridoo was sold for $7,000 for Polio Plus.
Helen also told us that Rotary International has reached the required amount of $200 million challenge set by Bill Gates for Polio Plus and he has donated another $50 million to Rotary 'cause we were good.
Did you know….?
- A cow gives nearly 200,000 glasses of milk in her lifetime.
- Rats can swim for a kilometer without resting and they can also tread water for three days straight. (That is probably why they did not drown in my chooks water tank.)
- No piece of paper can be folded in half more than seven times.
