Between the 10th and 18th October 2011 after much planning Richard undertook his adventure… the Great Ocean Walk from Apollo Bay to Princetown / the Twelve Apostles. The walk is 104 km long, which he broke into 8 – 15km per day. He carried a heavy pack of 20+ lbs. The track is well defined with spectacular coastline scenery, river crossings, cliff top pathways, stairs and boardwalks, steep climbs and descents, some wildlife and interesting plant life well adapted to survive the harsh coastal environment. Richard turned off his mobile phone with all its wiz bang appliances and functions, (how did he manage?), as he needed some time to himself. He needed to think and to be within himself to experience depth and self-connection away from the immediacy and shallowness of technology and the demand to respond with speed to electronic connectedness. It was the journey not the destination that was important at this particular time as late last year he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The condition is common, affects movement and tiredness can be a problem. Five percent of the 25 diagnosed each day in Australia are hereditary. Richard's Uncle, Father and Brother are all affected. The talk we listened to was simple but the personal sense of achievement which was conveyed highlighted his courage which he will use to live his life was powerful. Richard's presentation was inspirational.
Forward Planning… Partner's nights
29th May- Annual Davidson's Restaurant (at the Gordon) Evening.
Please note partners are automatically booked in for Partners
night so if not attending an apology MUST be recorded.
Girlie wisdom!
-Women over 50 don't have babies because they would put them down and forget where they left them. I know I do with my car keys.
- A friend of mine confused her Valium with her birth control pills… she has 14 kids but doesn't really care.
- One of life's mysteries is how a 1lb box of chocolates can make a woman gain 5lbs.
- My mind not only wanders, it sometimes leaves completely.
