Guest speaker:
PDG Jessie Harman. Membership.
The main topic in this perennial area of interest was the four initiatives being trialled and supported by Rotary International.
These included;
- Satellite Clubs
- Corporate Membership.
- Associate Membership. This is being trialled in District 9780.
- Innovation and Flexibility.
Satellite Clubs are formed by established Rotary Clubs but the members in this group meet for fellowship and service.
Associate Membership enables prospective members to try Rotary before they join. The trial period allows people to know about Rotary and they are more likely to join. Service in this category is particularly pleasing.
Corporate Membership. Club partners up with a Company allowing four designees to become members of the club one of which must be a senior executive. There are some challenges with this initiative.
Innovation and Flexibility where different meeting logistics, different terminology and different terms of office are being trialled. Success of these initiatives has not been assessed yet, it is too early.
There has been a small decline in membership in Australia but District 9780 has grown and appears healthy. The average age is 62.5 years with 16% less than 50 years. Therefore the average age must be lowered to sustain the longevity of Rotary. Retention of members is most important as most new members leave within three years of induction. Diversity, Innovation and Flexibility are the key words for the - I used to be addicted to soap, but I am clean now.
Note to members – Apologies must be in by 11a.m. on MONDAY! Notification later than this is of no use. Co-operation with this would be appreciated.
I apologies for the lateness of this edition...you have no idea how much there is to when you are supposed to be resting in Hospital!
