Notes and reminders:
- The RYLA Camp is scheduled soon. Please let Ann know if you know anyone between 18-21 years who may be suitable. This is an excellent experience, but it is difficult to fill places.
- Geoff Chandler reminded members about the Shine On Awards. He would be pleased to receive nominations any time.
 - Social Committee. Marion Walton – A bus will depart from the Ocean Grove Golf Club for the Birregurra Cup at 11a.m. on 6/10/12. A volunteer driver is requested.
- Pride in Workmanship Award. Please consider likely recipients for this award, e.g. people with whom you have had business dealings who have shown a high level of dedication and have provided a high level of service reflecting pride in the work they do.  Gerry Spencer and Geoff Chandler would be pleased to hear of any nominations by 26/10/12
- Art Show. Entries are coming in well. Raffle tickets are available from Tony Haines if wanted. Noel Emselle seeks drivers of the shuttle bus service during the show. As it is not usually boggy in the area Wal Kelly will not need to put his skills to the test!
- Summer Market. This will commence on 7th October at Kingston Park as usual. Members are requested to assist with the collection of the gold coin donation at the gate, as the Shelter Box program is the recipient.
- Look Out Reserve.  Noel Emselle circulated the roster for the fortnightly clean up. It does not take long and it makes the reserve appear loved!
- The Ballarat South Car Raffle ticket selling activity is upon us again…commencing on Sunday at the market, please put your names on the list where you can be available especially as Ingrid C has broken her foot.
- The Barwon Heads Fine Music Society is holding its 4th Carnival of Music from 12th to 14th October. Tickets are available exclusively from GPAC, or phone 52251200. The venue is the Barwon Heads Community Hall and the program looks varied and most enjoyable. I have further information if required. (A George.)
- A Concert for seniors is being held on Sunday, 28th October, at 2.00p.m at the Bellarine Church of Christ, 17 Tareeda Way, Ocean Grove. Gold Coin Entry and bookings are essential for catering purposes. Phone Don at 52552398, by 21/10/12.
- International: Geoff Brentnall – A collection of bikes, bike parts and books has been given to DIK. There will be another collection in November so start gathering up the unwanted treasures.
- Community Service. John Eyles needs volunteers for Marshals and bag fillers for the swim/bike event on 17th March 2013.
- Congratulations to Marion Walton for picking Jobe Watson correctly for the Brownlow Medal.
****** Please remember to avail yourselves of the tea and coffee provided during the evening, preferably before the guest speaker commences. *****

Guest Speaker:  Catherine Eagleson.
Catherine and her husband are members of the RC of Drysdale. She is a schoolteacher cum crossword puzzle compiler of considerable skill as she has already written one book (of 48 puzzles) on the subject with another on the way. A unique development of that very popular pastime is the use of code words, a sample of which was distributed at the meeting. Gordon King tackled his with enthusiasm and not a little skill, but others were observed saving theirs for the endeavors of their partners at home. Well that's their story anyway! Not only is Cathy's innovation a real challenge, but it is also claimed to ward off dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
According to J Fox the meeting closed in peace, love and harmony at 1956 hours – a b….. record.
Thanks too foxy for taking the notes.
Why AFL football isn't what it was, including why Pres Dick is not a multi-millionaire.
Dick closed the meeting with a comparison of the admin; salaries paid to a selected few in the 1960's as opposed to the millions it now costs to run an AFL club. Foxy reckons there is not much change out of  $20 million in today's climate. Dick played in four winning premierships and only one loosing one for Richmond.

- Note to members – Apologies must be in by 11a.m. on MONDAY! Notification later than this is of no use. Co-operation with this would be appreciated. Phone number: 0457 315 900  AG.

P.S. Can you hear me?
A man feared that his wife wasn't hearing as well as she used to and he thought she might need a hearing aid. Not sure how to approach her, he called the local doctor to discuss the problem. The doctor told him a simple test he could use to have a better idea about her hearing loss. "Here's what to do", the doctor said, "Stand about 40 feet away from her and in a normal speaking tone see if she hears you, if not go to 30 feet, then 20 and so on, until you get a response." That evening his wife was in the kitchen preparing dinner and he was in the den. He thinks this is about 40feet away, let's see what happens. Then in a normal speaking voice he asks, "Honey, what's for dinner?" There is no response. So, he moves closer to about 30 feet away and asks again: "Honey, what's for dinner?" Again he gets no response. So he walks into the kitchen, about 10 feet away and asks again, "Honey what's for dinner?" Still no response, so he walks up behind her to ask again, "What's for dinner?" His wife turns to him in a thoroughly exasperated way and says "FOR THE FIFTH TIME, I HAVE TOLD YOU – IT'S CHICKEN!"
