Guest Speaker: Gaynor Schols (RI Torquay)
Gaynor is the Southern Area Manager for ROMAC (Rotary Oceania Medical aid for Children) This organization provides vital care and complicated surgery for children which is life saving and not available in their own country. It started in 1988 caring for 400 children, 39 in 2014 at the 2 centers in Victoria that provide the facilities needed to care for these complex cases. Gaynor showed us some of the conditions that have been successfully treated. Because surgery is complicated and recovery time often prolonged the treatment is expensive. Families in Australia host children, and often a parent, and most of the staff are volunteers.
Assistance is needed for hosting, fund raising, visiting and translation and donations are always gratefully received. ROMAC woks in conjunction with Interplast. There is a Facebook and web site.
Dick Clay announced that our Club has made a donation of $1000.00 to ROMAC.
Please note it is essential that apologies be recorded by 12noon on Mondays. Also the Club has to pay for members who have apologized and not turned up!
Phone number is 0457 315 900. Thank You.
A Reminder… I would be very grateful if a hard copy of reports could be given to me at the meeting…. it would make my task easier!
