Guest Speaker: Sarah Henderson, MP for Corangamite.
Sarah is a local girl who attended Geelong College, before gaining a Bachelor of Laws and Media Studies. She worked in the media and lives at Barwon Heads. Politics runs deeply in her family, as both her parents have been heavily involved in local politics. She believes in community first and politics second and that she has been elected to represent her community first and foremost.
The Electorate of Corangamite is a large one with 176 communities and she has campaigned hard for the needs of the smaller of these. Sarah spoke briefly about some of the areas she has been particularly interested in, e.g. mobile phone coverage, the roll out of the NBN Network, the Shell Road Pavilion, the Stallwarts Fund, areas of manufacturing in the Geelong area and the continuation of Ford design, Princes Highway duplication, the Geelong Star trawler and its effects on pelagic fisheries, renewable energy programs and the removal of children from detention centers.
Sarah believes it is tough being a woman in Parliament especially with the home caring and nurturing role. A supportive partner who is capable and caring is essential. She believes there is a need to have a gender balanced parliament and encouragement for women to become involved.
Please note it is essential that apologies be recorded by 12noon on Mondays.
Also the Club has to pay for members who have not apologized and not turned up!
Phone number is 0457 315 900. Thank You.
