President:
- A list was passed around for those interested in attending a pre release viewing of the film "Bridge of Spies" to be held on 21/10. The cost is $20 and funds raised will be directed to Polio Plus.
Secretary Report:
- Bellarine "Relay for Life" to be held on 7th & 8th November Club members need to consider whether we want to field a team. Tony Haines has more information or phone Heather Grant 0400 402 561.
- An Ice Task Force information booth is being held in Westfield/ Marker Square Shopping Centers from October 12 to 16. RC of Highton is coordinating the manning of the booths and anticipates that if each District 9 Club was able to offer 6 to 8 man-hours in 2 hourly blocks, the booths will be fully manned. Rotarians are to work in pairs, and there will be a briefing for volunteers towards the end of September. A list will be circulated. See Tony for further details.
- The Neighbourhood Centre will hold the Annual General Meeting on 12/10 at 7.30pm in the new centre.
- Please remember to give Tony the hours you have worked on Rotary business for July and August.
Foundation: There is a Seminar in Ararat on 15/11/2015. Four members are going to attend the seminar.
Rotary's annual World Polio kickoff day will be held in New York on 23/10/15. This event is seen as an opportunity to update participants around the world on the progress made and the next steps to be taken which will hopefully eradicate Polio from the Earth.
The $2.00 per week moneyboxes are available. Funds are used as Centurian Donations.
Youth Committee: This years VCE Awardees will receive their cheques in October.
International: Two Luminades will be included in Shelter Boxes. It was suggested we should fund a Box for Syria.
Market: The first Summer Market will be held at Kingston Park on 3/10/15. We must have a volunteer to run the Market for the next two years or the event will collapse and the loss of the funds gained there would be tragic. Last Sundays market was fairly successful. $841 was raised for 'Relay for Life.' The November market will be on the same day as the Art Show so the volunteer list will need names.
Social: There will be a lunch at the "One Day Winery" on 11/10/15 at 1pm. Cost $20.00 per head. As the venue is very popular it is suggested that members arrive at 12.15pm for 12.30pm. See email from Vic circulated on 15/9/2015. Twenty-six people have registered interest.
Community: Three volunteers turned up to do renovations at the Surfside Primary School on Thursday 1/10 at 9am. The garden will be finished on Thursday.
The Uniting Church is checking out the gardens that need doing.
The Seniors Christmas Party will be on 8/12/15.
- The Water Feature has been moved from Paxton Press. Suggestions for sites are needed. See John Wynn.
- Pride of Workmanship Awards nominations are due.
- The Car Raffle is underway.
As John Calnin will be away next year for Anzac Day a new organizer for the breakfast will be needed.
- "Ride the Bellarine" is being held on 3/4/16. Volunteers are needed to help.
Art Show: Entries are coming in well. Please return books.
Most members wore hats to mark Mental Health Week. Jan fox and Noel Emselle were the winners.
Guest Speakers: Bisi Kolcakovski and April Livesly.
The Learn to drive program was introduced in 2009 with the aim of assisting those learners who have difficulty in gaining the required 120 hours of supervised driving experience needed to apply for 'P' plates. It is the oldest and largest in the State and is State funded. Young people are referred through various avenues and the supervisors are trained to be involved with the program. The car is fuelled and the learner is matched with a supervisor or mentor. There are 90 learners at any one time, 190 mentors and three cars. 13.000 hours have been provided and this year, 130 have gained their 'P' plates.
The program has gained many awards. There are 67 such programs across the state.
It is more than a learn to drive program as the relationships formed become important and often long lasting.
In the future the aim is to have cars in Geelong and Corio and one on the Bellarine. Volunteers are needed for one or two hours per week for instruction. The cost per learner is $2000 and a need for sponsorship exists for more than the 70 funded by the state. The learners are usually aged between 16 – 21 years.
This appears to be a very worthwhile program especially if road death involving young people can be reduced. 1 in 3 road accidents involve our youth!
Membership dues are overdue!
Please note it is essential that apologies be recorded by 12noon on Mondays.
Also the Club has to pay for members who have not apologized and not turned up!  Phone number is 0457 315 900. Thank You.
