Ava Redman has completed year 12 this year. Her award enabled her to become more involved in the outdoor environment and pursuit of Fine Arts. She has been able to work at the Queenscliff Music Festival in the area of event planning. Ava hopes to study this at RMIT in 2017. Her expression of thanks well expressed.
Ann Hodgkinson introduced Tiffany Shih our Exchange student from Taiwan. Tiffany is
seventeen years old and lives in Taipei. Her sponsoring Club is RI Taipei Gardens. Taiwan has a population of 23 million people. The main attractions within the city of Taipei according to Tiffany are the lively night markets and eating street food especially. The main temple is Xingtian. Taipei also has many up-market hotels that cater for locals and the tourist trade.
There are four major festivals; Chinese New Year that is a family orientated celebration, Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and the Mid Autumn Festival. Each event has special meaning for the population as there is special significance attached to them.
Tiffany has two parents and one younger brother. She attends the Mackay College of Nursing and Management. When possible she plays basketball. In the future she hopes to use her language skills to work in the Foreign Service. Tiffany is attending the Bellarine Secondary College and appears to have settled in well. Hosting responsibilities are being shared with RI Drysdale.
Jacqui Honeywell, our outgoing student spoke about the long process to reach selection. Her year commences very soon. She will be travelling to a district west of Berlin. She thanked the Club for the sponsorship as a Rotary Exchange Student and no doubt she will keep us informed about her experiences.
Thank you, AG
