PROJECT REPORTS:
MARKET: Approval to hold markets at the Ocean Grove Park has been received. Adrian met with the President of the Park Committee and walked the area for site markers. A Mark out with occurs in early September. He has sent 401 emails to past stallholders of which 330 were valid. 92 non-email stallholders have been sent letters. They have been advised that unless they pay for the season, the will not have choice of site on the day but can pay on the day as they arrive. Sites fees will be $30 of which $5 goes to the Park Association. Charity sites will be free. Powered sites are available. Coin collections will be limited to community organizations and a call for expressions of interest will be advertised. No car parkers will be needed. One issue that needs to be resolved is that the Tranquility Fair will be held at twilight on the day before our market so options need to be considered.
MEMBERSHIP NIGHT: To be held on August 2nd targeting people who have potential to become Rotarians. If you know of someone suitable please get names to John Calnin. Board members will attend.
AUSTRALIA DAY FESTIVAL: To be held in Main Street. Council permission has been obtained. It will involve a free sausage sizzle between 9 and 11 am. It was felt there was a need to add something to the day as little else was happening in the community.
MND AUCTION AND DINNER: To be held on 13th February. The MND Association has approved the event. The main speaker will be Christian Hilton, Chair of the Victorian Equal Opportunity Commission. Still working on organizing prizes. Edgars Real Estate will provide an auctioneer. We are contacting local associations for their participation. Need to coordinate approaches to organizations for sponsorship to avoid duplication with other projects.
BATTLE OF THE BRIDGE: Fundraising proposal will involve bucket brigades on the Barwon Heads Pedestrian Bridge. Two 1,000 litre plastic containers to be filled from 4 litre buckets by teams of 50 to 200 participants, open to all ages. Each participant/family will pay an entry fee. It will be held sometime between Christmas and New Year. We will need to provide some entertainment and food for participants. Also need to get approval from VicRoads and Barwon Coast and to promote it within local caravan parks, working with their social organizers. An organizing committee will need to be formed. It was suggested at requiring pre-registration of participants would reduce the risk involved in this project.
NEXT MEETING: Will involve guest speaker Prof. David Finklestein talking on research into Parkinson's disease. It was asked that members invite members of the public to attend to increase numbers. Social events upcoming include a car rally, progressive dinner, drive-in movie night and a multi-media presentation on Rotary.
Cheers, AH
