Report of Meeting: 25/7/2017.

Visitors: Nil
- Pearl has exchanged greetings between RC of Dumbarton and RC of Ocean Grove.
- Membership fees are due. $210.00. John Paton or Noel Emselle will accept them happily and with grace.
- The AGM of the Ocean Grove Community Association will be held at 7pm, 27th July followed by an address by Sarah Henderson MP.
- Tiffany is with her new host family. She will travel home on 21st August. Hopefully a farewell function will be arranged.

Fundraising: Volunteers are needed for the manning of the gates at the Geelong and District Finals matches. This is a good fundraiser for the Club. See Peter Cullen for more information. 

Market: The new venue at the Ocean Grove Park (Ingermells Park) is being promoted as widely as possible. 

Membership: A meeting will be held on August 2nd targeting people who may be interested in becoming Rotarians. If you know of someone please let John Calnin or Rod Bush know. Board members will attend.

Footy Tipping: Coral Barker won this week. Geoff Ford remains the leader of the competition.

Community: There will be a working bee on Sunday 30th July from 11am – 1pm after which there will be a BBQ. This activity is to mark National Tree day. Meeting place will be opposite the Cheeky Cow shop on Ocean Throughway at 7W for registration etc. 
- Lookout Reserve revegitation and general maintenance will be held on Sunday, 10th September at10am. 

Vocational: Two activities are planned and locked in. 
- Driftwood Café on Tuesday 12th September, 6 for 6.30pm. Ty Symons (owner/manager) will explain how the café came about and general aspects of café management. This is a partner’s night and friends and guests are most welcome. Cost for the evening is $30.00, this includes a wine tasting and a two-course meal. A minimum of 40 people is needed. 
- Visit to the Waltons Piggery on Sunday 12th November. Please see the recent email for details. 

Please note: The bus will only take 52 people plus driver. NO PUBLIC TRANSPORT CAN BE ALLOWED ON THE FARM.

Guest Speakers:  Three new members.

Meredith O’Neill.  She has four children, no grandchildren, a cat and a dog. Her husband, Shane teaches at Bellarine Secondary College. Meridith was born at Ouyen, attended the high school and studied Economics and Politics at Monash University. She taught these subjects at North Geelong and elsewhere and has also worked at the Gordon and Deakin University. She was appointed acting principal several times. Meredith retired in 2011 but returned in 2014 on a part time basis. She has written five textbooks.
She has been involved with the community through her children and has developed strong beliefs in education and equal opportunity for youth. Global co-operation and humanitarianism are also important, as is citizenship for moral, ethical and democratic standards in the community.
Leisure time is occupied with travelling, further studying especially of the stock exchange, tennis, reading, gardening and dog walking. Continuous use of mobile phones is not her favourite activity.

Alan Keyse.  Alan was born in 1948 to a good working class family in South Wales. His father was a merchant seaman. The family came to Australia as ‘ten pound poms’ in 1953. He grew up in Port Stevens and developed an interest in steam trains. He went to New Zealand and was about to join the Police Force there until his marital status prevented this. He then became involved with financial services and later Insurance services. Because of his belief in taking opportunities when they arose he rose through the levels of his profession.
Alan retired in 2011. He has three children and one grandchild and since his divorce has lived with in Leopold with Janet Alexander.

Janet Alexander.
Janet was born to military parents and is the eldest of five. Her parents immigrated to Australia from England She grew up in Essendon and is a Carlton supporter. Her father was a staunch Rotarian. She came to Ocean Grove in 2010 after a marriage breakup. She made friends fairly quickly and joined the View Club where she enjoyed the aim of helping people through supporting the Smith Family.
Janet likes films, British drama, reading, bike riding music and exercise. She hates gamboling advertisements. She is very keen on education and has been an educator in all levels including experienced teachers. She has become very interested and involved with refugee children from Vietnam. Janet has two children and lives with Alan Keyse in Leopold after meeting him ‘on-line’.
