Guest Speakers: Peter Dorling and Andrew Keene.
Peter is one of three administrators appointed to reorganize the City of Greater Geelong Council and Andrew is the Executive Manager of People and Organization Development.
An Invitation was extended to these speakers after discussions with COGG and investigating what and how the Club might undertake projects in our community.
The Council will be returned to an elected body in October. There will be 13 Councillors and the Mayor will be elected from within the elected ranks.
The Administrators were charged to look at Governance, Finances, and Culture within the Council and to formulate a long-range plan. (30 years).
The interim group was given a relatively short period to work through their tasks and Peter believes they have done the best they could. Two Monitors will be appointed for three years to ensure the Councillors and the staff work well together.
The Budget controlled by the City is nearly 400 Billion and is expended on large capital works, the maintenance of many valuable assets and development of new projects to enhance and revitalize the CBD. Some difficult decisions have been made including the closure of the Sale yards and Osbourne House. The Jail is to be sold but district libraries will remain.
The Administrators have visited all the wards in the district and listened to the people including the very large number of volunteers in the area who are keen to develop and maintain cordial working relations with the new council.
At question time the future of Osbourne House and its surrounding facilities especially as far as DIK activities are concerned was raised. The future is uncertain. The implementation and doing of local projects was also raised as members are keen to develop a means of communicating with a person in a position who can deal with requests to enable members to ‘just do the jobs.’ We were informed that a new structure has been proposed which will have a holistic approach based on the outcome of projects in the community, the cost and future strategies.
It was suggested that the Club should invite the CEO of the City to a meeting every 12 months to answer questions and discuss matters of interest and concern.
The future is full of interest.

Thank you.
AG.

Please note: Peter Cullen’s Address is 13 Penleigh Crescent not 2 Aldersyde Court as shown in this year’s book.
