Other projects under discussion could involve Public Toilets, children’s sensory play area, BBQ and shelter, road repair and upgrade and a viewing platform. The entry places at the Nature Reserve are also on the agenda and the water feature saga continues.

International: - Ride the Bellarine will continue in support of Polio Plus. Janet Alexander has offered to train prospective cyclists for the ride. The Shelter Box will be shown at the January Market with treats for sale perhaps. A car boot sale may be held to provide much needed assistance to the area of Solemaid School as the recent flooding has affected food sources.

Guest Speaker: Mandy Cunningham.
Mandy has wide nursing experience especially in in eye surgery and care. For the last seven years she has been involved with an aide group, Australian Health Aide, which is supported by a Rotary Club in Liverpool. This charity works for helping the poor particularly in Vietnam and Cambodia. Mandy has worked in Cambodia most recently.
Each trip to the area involves many volunteers, medical, nursing and support staff. At present the involvement has been in Phnom Pen as working in the countryside has become too difficult.
Surgery is mostly to remove cataracts that sometimes require extensive surgery. Each trip involves six days where over 500 operations are done in three theatres with three surgical teams working. The patients only had one eye done and the results were good. Mandy said the work was hard but there was opportunity for lots of fun as well. The group teaches medical students who are observing and part of the volunteer team. Local medical workers are taught. Whilst there is heavy emphasis on ophthalmic surgery there is some treatment for children in dentistry. The support of the Prince of Cambodia is most important.
The talk was illustrated with the story of one patient Bah Han and her successful journey through treatment and aftercare.
The cost of each operation is $110. The volunteers pay their own way. These people are remarkable.
