A story about fishing
One morning, the husband returns the boat to their lakeside cottage after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out.
She motors out a short distance, anchors, puts her feet up, and begins to read her book. The peace and solitude are magnificent.
Along comes a Fisheries and Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, “Good morning Ma’am. What are you doing?”. “Reading a book”, she replies, thinking, ‘Isn’t that obvious?’..
You’re in a restricted fishing area,” he informs her. “I’m sorry, officer, but I’m not fishing. I’m reading”.
“Yes, but I see that you have all the equipment. For all I know, you could start at any moment. I’ll have to take you in and write you up”.
“If you do that, I’ll have to charge you with sexual assault”, she replied. “But I haven’t even touched you”, says the Game Warden.
“That’s true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know, you could start at any moment”. To which the Warden replied, as he left, “Have a nice day ma’am”. Never argue with a woman who reads. It’s likely she can also think.

The Lookout Reserve Heritage Panels – to be launched next Saturday, 25th June at 10.00 am.
The Rotary club of Ocean Grove, assisted by funds from the City of Greater Geelong, has undertaken major works in our ongoing project to develop and maintain the Lookout Reserve as an attractive and interesting focal point for Ocean Grove. Improvements to the park include the re-erection of the original directional finder of the Grant’s Lookout, new drinking fountains, and new signage to highlight the history of the area.
The club has already undertaken significant weed control and replanting and has contracted with the City of Greater Geelong to maintain the park as an ongoing Rotary Club of Ocean Grove project.
Collaboration with Wathaurong Co-operative representatives, local residents, and the Geelong Heritage Centre has resulted in the preparation of a series of interpretive panels that offer insights into the early history of the Ocean Grove district. Jan Farrell will perform the opening.
This event will be followed by morning tea/coffee at the Ocean Grove Surf Lifesaving Club Members lounge.
Another ‘CB’ ‘Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our community’.
Notes from last night’s meeting
- Alex Magee scored the maximum 8 in last weekends footy tipping and now leads by 2.
- Judy Greer forecast a candidate for the National Youth Science Forum.
- John Paton seeks support for our first winter market at the Surfside Centre on Sunday 3 July. Be There!
- Ian Downing launched the countdown to the October Art Show, and Dick Clay distributed raffle books.
- It may not be a good idea to travel to the March 2012 District Conference in Warrnambool by train as the sessions will be conducted at the university, well west of your accommodation. However, if you want reserved accommodation in town, send a cheque for $50 to Rod Greer.
They don’t use horses any more, but guest speaker Dr. David Holloway Ph.D took us back in time!
The 4th/19th Light Horse Brigade was formed more than 100 years ago, and is now an armoured unit having seen service in both world wars. David is a retired school teacher, but served in the unit in its CMF days and, on invitation , became the Brigades historian, and the author of the book, [ a very voluminous ‘tome’] ‘Endure and Fight’. In WW1, the original 4th Light Horse Brigade served on all three fronts – Gallipoli, the Middle East, and France, with distinction, and David regaled us with stories of the many ‘characters’ who graced the unit and the Australian war effort in general.
The emu plumes, which originated in Queensland, are no longer used – or available.
The Polio Plus campaign appears to be bogged down on the home stretch
The latest report from PDG Eddie Loughnan indicates that Pakistan and the African equatorial countries of Chad and the Congo remain the last bastians of RI’s target. At last report, Pakistan still had 33 reported cases and the two African countries 76 between them. At first sight, incompetent governments would appear to be the root cause!
Of the US$200m which is our challenge to match the Gates Foundation, US$168m has been raised so far, leaving. US$34m to go in the 12 months before the 30 June 2012 target gate!
Miss Charlene Mason sang ‘I shall not pass this way again’, giving obvious pleasure to the congregation’.
District 9780 outperforms other Australian Districts
DG Jessie Harman is very proud to report that our Rotary district has outperformed most other Australian districts in 2011, so far as gains in membership and per capita Foundation giving are concerned. The District is one of only three Australian districts to record net membership growth, and per capita giving to the Rotary Foundation has more than doubled in the past twelve months.
Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of some older ones.
A final Message, -from Hamish
Many is the time when my Cairn Terrier has sat quietly nearby, anxious to give me inspiration for my bulletin, and yearning to contribute a bit of ‘Doggeral”. So I promised him he would be granted the last words1 The following are his words of wisdom;
- For you- A dog is man’s best friend. Cats are acquaintances at best.
- For your dog- Cleanliness is next to………..well, to be honest, cleanliness is not a big priority.
- For your dog- If you have to throw up, do it on a chair or a couch. You don’t want to be stepping in that nasty stuff later on.
- For you- What! Like you wouldn’t like to lick yourself there if you could?
- For you- Of course we look up to you. We’re only as tall as your knee.
- For your dog- Do your part to make guests feel welcome by accompanying them into the bathroom. You don’t have to do anything. Just sit and stare at them while they relieve themselves.
“And that, Foxy, is a bloody sight better as a farewell present than one of your silly editorials!!” HAMISH, [the dog]
