Bulletin of the meeting held at the Ocean Grove Hotel on Tuesday July 6, 2004

Reports

Secretary, Dennis Saliba: The Blue Books and Annual Reports have been distributed to members. If anyone has missed out or requires extra copies they are available.

Treasurer, Coral Barker: Coral and Bob Osbourne (outgoing Treasurer) will meet tomorrow night. Subscriptions are now due.

Club Service, Helen Trigg:
a. A key focus for the year will be membership and club profile. Social outings such as BBQs may provide opportunities for the club to be visile in the community.
b. The Centenary Project has struck a few problems, which need to be overcome before any progress can be made.
c. Henry Hudson is working on programs – speakers will start earlier in the evening.
d. (From Tony Haines) The Market Committee will meet soon and is looking for the usual support from the club. 17 stalls are booked with sites still available. With around two months to the first market all should be ready on time.
e. Club property is still being gathered and stored in the space made available by the hotel.
f. The new arrangement for the improved meal with no desert continues for two more weeks. Feedback welcome.

Community Service, John Wynn:
a. The venue is not well suited to group discussion at the tables because it is very difficult to hear each other.
b. The Ocean Grove Cup will be held on March 6, 2005. This is the same weekend as the District Conference and the Ocean Grove Market.
c. The viability of the Highway Clean-up is in doubt with new requirements from Council regarding risk assessment.
d. The Centennial Project has stalled at the moment.
e. The Christmas Tree Project has the potential to be a very successful event with the Great Victorian Bike Ride in town on that night (Dec 4th) with up to 3000 riders and 15000 supporters.
f. Anzac Day breakfast will continue as well as the Senior Citizens Dinner, Red Cross Calling (Probus Clubs will assist), raffle ticket sales, mock job interviews, and the market. A half day weed pull is also a possibility.
g. All jobs will now require Job Safety Data sheets to identify risks and hazards.

International Service, Margaret Campbell: Projects include –
a. Aqua Boxes
b. Sponsorship of Indonesian Students
c. Projects to aid East Timor
d. Ongoing support for Polio Plus in light of a new outbreak
e. Fiji Low Cost Housing – see latest issue of Rotary Downunder

Vocational Service, Geoff Brentnall (for Peter Cullen):
a. Regarding Low Cost Housing, $2000 is allocated from last Rotary Year, as well as $1000 to support work for health issues in Matamba, Tanzania.
b. Workplace visits are proposed including MAFRI and Avalon.
c. Pride of Workmanship Awards to continue – October is Vocational Month.
d. Mock Job interviews
e. Members may like to speak about something new in their vocation.
f. New members to be sought
g. Operation Livewire – with John Calnin
h. Dinner at the Gordon Institute
i. Shine On Awards for people with disabilities or similar programs

Youth Service, David Tyrrell:
a. Focus on Youth Exchange (inward) to be successful for the club. The Danish exchange student will arrive soon.
b. RYPEN, High Challenge and Life Skills programs
c. Continuing and expanding all existing programs including Rotary Junior Community Awards.

From the floor -

Martin Geerings – Exchange: Student will arrive 25 July and be placed at Sacred Heart College.

Bloodarine Challenge, Peter Hawthorne: Successful event with 41 new donors, 208 regular donors – a total of 249 donors in 6 months. Ocean Grove won the challenge with 5 new donors and 35 regular donors. Peter suggests that the prize money be put up for another 6 months of competition. Matter to be referred to board.

Alex Magee – Any members who may be interested in a golf trip to Yarrawonga around 7th September, and/or a trip to the ski slopes, please speak to Alex.

Alan Joyce – Alan has wine for sale at a good price – profits towards the club.

Tony Haines – An excellent write-up on the Bloodarine Challenge appeared in the Merimbula Times.
