Bulletin Number 22

Bulletin for the meeting held at the Ocean Grove Hotel on Tuesday November 30, 2004

Welcome, President Timothy Kemp: Welcome members and guests. A special welcome is extended to the teachers from Ocean Grove Primary School for the Rotary Junior Community Awards presentations to be held later in the evening. Welcome also to guest Judy Mills.

Reports:

Alan Joyce, Christmas Tree Project, Point Lonsdale: This Saturday December 4th.

A volunteer with a tandem trailer is required to transport the stage from the Ocean Grove Primary School to Point Lonsdale.

Members are required to assist with road closures and the sale of Glo-sticks from 5.00pm. Please report to Alan for instructions when you arrive. The Great Victorian Bike Ride is in town on this night, and this will add to what is already a great community event and joint project between Rotary and Lions, the churches of Point Lonsdale/Queenscliff and community volunteers.

Be sure to support this project if you can and remember – many hands make lights work!

John Calnin: The Senior Citizen’s Chritmas Dinner will be held at the next meeting on December 7th. Please note that the venue is the Ocean Grove Golf Club. Drivers are still required. As the Barwon Heads bridge is closed that evening, drivers will have to go the long way to Barwon Heads.

Geoff Chandler: Graham Bath is still not well. Radiation treatment begins soon. Volunteer Rotary drivers have responded in great numbers to assist.

    Rotary Junior Community Awards
    The Rotary Junior Community Award is a program aimed at giving young children the opportunity to develop attitudes towards volunteerism by assisting organisations and people in need, to learn about their own community, to develop healthy attitudes towards physical recreation and to develop new skills.
    The Rotary Club of Ocean Grove first participated in the program when Graham Bath initiated it, after his grandson was involved in the awards in another area. Martin Geerings acknowledged Graham’s contribution in his absence at the meeting.
    The Award asks children to focus on four main aspects of community life;
    Community Service where children help other people.
    Skills, where children learn a new hobby or interest,
    Physical Recreation with thee accent on participation as well as performance and
    Social Experience where children take part in a range of community activities including a community celebration, a community meeting, a cultural exchange, a religious experience and an arts performance.
    Congratulations to the students who participated in the program and attended the meeting to make their presentations. Well done!
