Bulletin for the meeting held at the Ocean Grove Hotel on March 29, 2005

President TAG Kemp: President Kemp opened the meeting with a toast to Her Majesty the Queen and a toast to the Queen of Denmark, Queen Margrethe before extending a warm welcome to members, visiting Rotarians and guests.

Response to the Donations in Kind has been positive with some goods received.

Shirts are available for new members. Please see the president.

Thanks to those members who participated in the working bee at Wilma Bath’s property prior to Easter. This was a good effort.

Special thanks to Tony Haines who is retiring from the Market Coordinator’s position. Tony has done an excellent job. He has also prepared a document containing guidelines for future market coordinators.

The club by-laws will soon be updated. Submissions were to be received by the end of March.

INDUCTION CEREMONY

Bob Smith was introduced to the club by John Wynn. Born at Menindee, Bob has been a dedicated CFA volunteer for some 38 years. He has been captain at Ocean Grove for 11 years and worked for CFA Special Services in Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong. President TAG Kemp welcomed Bob to the club after the official induction ceremony.

Reports

Community Service, John Wynn – The proposed walking track along the bluff will go ahead in the coming months. DSE advise that permits are almost ready.

Youth Service, David Tyrrell – We have three RYPEN candidates from three schools on the Bellarine Peninsula. Jan Howard, our Youth Exchange candidate from Bellarine Secondary College will attend a camp in Halls Gap this weekend.

From the floor…

Red Cross calling, Peter Hawthorne: The club colleted a total of $3,675.65. Congratulations to Geoff Ford who collected $561.00.

Seafood Fest: Ten Rotarians assisted at the Queenscliff Seafood Fest. Special thanks the partners who assisted as well – Ros and Moyra.

Market, Tony Haines: 942 cars arrived at the market on Easter Monday, a little disappointing however there were a good number of stallholders. Rod and Judy Greer will take over the Market coordination. The season total was $14,478 with $1,814 raised on the raffle. Thanks must go to Rod, Alison, Rod, James, Colin, Leigh and Tim for their particular efforts (apologies if others are excluded, as all assistance is appreciated).

Upcoming Debate: A club debate will take place on May 10, 2005. The topic of the debate is as follows:

“The amalgamation of local councils to form the council of the City of Greater Geelong has resulted in improved services to Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads.”

Vocational Service members will speak for the affirmative, while Community Service members will speak for the negative.
