Bulletin for the meeting held at the Ocean Grove Hotel on April 19, 2005
Welcome from President TAG Kemp. Welcome to Rotarians and guests, including Fred Andrews, guest of Rod Greer and Danny Powers, Assistant District Governor.
We have received the sad news that Isabel Hudson’s son has passed away and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to Isabel and Henry.
District Assembly is on May 22nd. Incoming office bearers are advised to attend.
Rotary shirts are available – see Tim.
If anyone calls to ask you to dial 90# DO NOT DO SO as this is a hoax which can allow others to charge calls to your phone line.
Keith Nixon has been nominated as contact person for our new sister club Southampton.
Reports
Geoff Brentnall: Charles Dawborn will coordinate the debate to be held on May 10th. Vocational and Community Service members please enlist your teams.
John Calnin – It would be good to see as many members as possible at the ANZAC Day Breakfast to assist, or simply enjoy an egg and bacon sandwich and the company of the diggers.
Martin Geerings – The Neighborhood Centre is selling the Entertainment Books this year for $50. These are excellent value with many discounts throughout the year PLUS a great way to support the center.
From the Floor: Wal Kelly suggests a CPR Night. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation can be learnt by anyone and can save lives. If approved by the board, we would need 20 members to indicate their interest in this non-certificate course. He has received A GOOD RESPONSE so far but a few more are required. Pres. Kemp has announced that the club will subsidise this activity.
Upcoming Debate: A club debate will take place on May 10, 2005. The topic of the debate is as follows:
“The amalgamation of local councils to form the council of the City of Greater Geelong has resulted in improved services to Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads.”
Vocational Service members will speak for the affirmative, while Community Service members will speak for the negative.
Kim Eden from National First Aid gave a very interesting talk and demonstration on the benefits of the portable CPR device. Volunteers were called in to demonstrate the ease with which these ‘talking’ devices can be used to restart the heart by electric shock. The CPR machines currently cost about $5000, but the benefits of having these machines should out-weigh the costs as they become more available.
