I wonder why folks worry?

There are only two reasons for worry, you are either successful or you are not successful. If you are successful, there is nothing to worry about: if you are not successful, there are only two things to worry about.
Your health is either good or you are sick. If your health is good, there is nothing to worry about: if you are sick, there are again only two things to worry about. You are either going to get well, or you are going to die.
If you are going to die, there are again only two things to worry about: You are either going to Heaven or you are going to Hell.
If you are going to Heaven, there is nothing to worry about: if you are going to Hell, you will be so busy shaking hands with your old friends that you won’t have time to worry at all.

SO WHY WORRY?

Extracts from the DG’s newsletter

There are 61 clubs in our district. We had an average attendance for November of 78.19% - 20th out of 61. 70.41% for the year [28th]. All a bit illusory, as 17 clubs didn’t report at all. WE DID!

Blessed are those who can give without remembering and take without forgetting.
Public relations efforts attracting recognition

‘An old people’s group’, ‘A VIP club’, ‘A traffic circle’.
These are some of the responses reported in The Rotarian recently when members of the Rotary World Magazine Press asked people on the street: “What is Rotary?”

Fortunately, this unscientific survey yielded enough correct answers to indicate that Rotary awareness is growing. Using a variety of public relations tools, Rotarians are helping to dispel the Rotary myths while gaining public recognition for their community and international humanitarian work
To help clubs and districts select the most effective method to share Rotary with their communities, RI has developed ‘Humanity in Motion 111’, a ‘best of’ collection. The set includes outstanding public service announcements from the CD-ROMS and DVDs for use in print and on radio, TV and billboards. It also includes sample newspaper supplements, Internet ads. and posters. Each item can be used unedited, or adapted to fit local markets.
A Rotary club in Argentina tailored the program to make certain the message of peace through education reached their audience. The club wanted to run ads. in Buenos Aires train stations, which an estimated 1.4 million commuters pass through every day.
However, because of the noise in the stations, the ‘voice-overs’ could not be used, so the club got the message converted to Spanish sub-titles.
Using an RI Public Relations Grant, the club ran 30-second PSAs on 500 TVs in 62 train stations every day for four months.
Information on ordering the program is available at www.rotary.org/support/prtools.

News in Brief

• Any Rotarian intending to travel throughout Aust., NZ, PNG or any of the South Pacific Islands, and thinking of a make-up, can get a directory for $2 from the RC Port Pirie, Box 30 Port Pirie, SA 5540..
• Our Red Cross Calling duties are set down for Tuesday 6th March. [No, it’s not the Ides!]
• The organ donor week for our club is advised by Peter Hawthorne to be 18th to 24th Feb. We don’t necessarily have to be a donor or a recipient in that week, but handing out leaflets is the aim.
• The plan to host drought sufferers, [a rather vague project at this stage], is being discussed at tonight’s board meeting. Political reporter Al. will submit a review next week.
• The seafood Fest is due to be held at Queenscliff on Good Friday, [I have never been able to understand why Christians don’t refer to it as bad Friday] on 6th April. We will get involved.
• Lindsay Burnett’s backyard garden project was inspected last Saturday and was assessed to be a less daunting task than first thought. It is expected to take 6 members two hours to complete the job, and the show of hands was satisfactory.
• DIK chairman Tim Kemp announced Monday 26th Feb as the next pick-up day. Please get your unwanted [or should I say ‘pre-owned’] goods ready, and tell your neighbors to do likewise.
• Treasurer Coral Barker reported a Charities Account surplus of $27,577, but a deficiency in the Admin. Acc. of $73. Who hasn’t paid their sub.?
• Car Raffle headsalesman Geoff Ford reported the conclusion of the 2006/07 season, [only about 10 weeks] with the quite extraordinary total of 636 books sold. I think that nets out to $10,176 for our Club. Unbelievable, but true!!
• At last Sunday’s market, we got 650 cars to transport over 1300 patrons to 68 stalls of a variety of goodies. Well done Judy Greer and her mob. Al ‘Capone’ George ripped $214 off passing patrons in the raffle and all the crays went, but not to me or Hans.
• The gala ‘Paul Harris’ dinner organized by Martin Geerings and Geoff Chandler netted $931.50 for the Rotary Foundation.
• Don’t forget the ladies bike race on 1st March. 23 of us are on marshall duties.
